WHEREAS, Robert Patterson began his career as a patrolman in the Paducah
Police Department in 1964 and progressed to Chief of Police in 1985, and
WHEREAS, Chief Patterson supervised the beginning of the Drug Awareness
Resistance Education (DARE) program in Paducah and was one of the originators of
the Western Area Narcotics Team (WANT), and
WHEREAS, Chief Patterson was named by Governor Wallace G. Wilkinson to
the Drug-Free Kentucky Commission serving as the only Chief of Police appointed
to this Commission, and
WHEREAS, Chief Patterson enthusiastically continued his education in fhe law J
enforcement field taking part in seminars and in-service training conducted by the
Kentucky State Police, the Department of Criminal Justice Training, and the Federal
Bureau of Investigation, and
WHEREAS, Chief Patterson in 1988 organized the Special Investigation Unit as a
part of the Paducah Police Department which has resulted in a 71% increase in drug-
related arrests, a 45% decrease in robberies, thefts, and burglaries, which translated
into over 2,000 fewer crime victims.

~~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE
`-~ COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH:
That the Mayor and the Commissioners in recognition of Chief Patterson's
many contributions to the welfare and safety of this community express their
sincere appreciation to Chief Patterson for his dedication and service to the Paducah
Community, and hereby direct the City Clerk to make this resolution a part of the
permanent records of the City of Paducah as an expression of their appreciation.
