RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF A
POLYTECHNICAL INSTITUTE AT THE PADUCAH COMMUNITY COLLEGE
CAMPUS
WHEREAS, Western Kentucky is the home of numerous
industrial plants which employ hundreds of engineers; and
WHEREAS, these industries require a steady flow of
new engineers and opportunities for advanced training for
currently employed engineers; and
WHEREAS, Paducah/McCracken County is developing a
highly advanced Information Age Park which has great
potential to attract technical jobs utilizing engineering
skills; and
WHEREAS, Paducah/McCracken County is the site of a
large gaseous diffusion plant which may attract substantial
new investment in engineering and research intensive
projects; and
WHEREAS, comprehensive engineering programs in
Paducah would substantially assist the region's economic
development by strengthening existing industries and
attracting new high technology businesses; and
WHEREAS, Paducah/McCracken County serves as the

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
That the Board of Commissioners of the City of
Paducah, Kentucky, endorses and fully supports the
establishment at the Paducah Community College campus of a
Polytechnic Institute offering full engineering courses at
the undergraduate and graduate levels which allows students
to obtain engineering degrees and to obtain advanced
supplemental training; and that Governor Brereton Jones and
the Kentucky General Assembly appropriate $20 million
partially to fund the Institute, to be augmented by
substantial locally obtained funds.
