HomeMy WebLinkAboutRobert Cherry, Mayor112 ~~SOL217IOJ1~ presented in donor of .~,od ert Cherry WHEREAS, Robert Cherry served the city of Paducah as Mayor in 1952-56,1960-64, ~, and 1968-72, and WHEREAS, his accomplishments as Mayor include the initiation of city-wide solid waste pickup and an aggressive program to pave and expand city streets, and WHEREAS, Robert Cherry made his hometown of Paducah well known through his travels for the city and as national President of the Florist Telegraph Delivery (FTD) Association, aworld-wide floral delivery service, and as International President of the Association, and WHEREAS, Robert Cherry was Mayor when the present City Hall, the Civic Plaza, and the Public Library were constructed in urban renewal areas, and WHEREAS, Robert Cherry was Mayor when the City of Paducah experienced the construction of the Department of Energy's gaseous diffusion plant, which brought thousands of people to Paducah, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH: That I, Gerry B. Montgomery, Mayor of Paducah, and Commissioners P J Grumley, ~'~' Zana Renfro, Robert Coleman, and John Hornsby, in recognition of Robert Cherry's '~,~ twelve years as Mayor of Paducah, join together to ask all of our citizens to express condolences to the Robert Cherry Family and ask that all city flags be flown at half- mast through Wednesday of this week. We further ask that the Paducah Police provide an honor guard for his funeral. We hereby direct the City Clerk to make this resolution a part of the permanent records of the City of Paducah as an expression of our gratitude for his service to Paducah and in sympathy to his family.
