RESOLUTION
OF THE BOARD OF CONIlVIISSIONERS
OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
WI~REAS, the City of Paducah and McCracken County know that the
Four Rivers Center will create a major urban renewal area in downtown Paducah and will
stimulate new economic growth, be a major tourist attraction, provide important
educational opportunities to the region's school children, improve the quality of life for all
residents and serve as a new tool for industrial recruitment; and
WHEREAS, the local governing bodies support the construction of the
Four Rivers Center for the benefit of all the citizens of western Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the region have demonstrated their support and
pledged more than $9 million toward an Endowment Fund to support the Four Rivers
Center, and by a region-wide fund raising campaign in 2000 will make a $9 million
commitment for construction; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah will acquire the downtown property
necessary for the Four Rivers Center building site; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah and McCracken County do hereby urge
~) the members of the Kentucky General Assembly to allocate not less than $8 million in
state funds for the construction of the Four Rivers Center in the upcoming budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD
OF COMNIISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
That the City of Paducah and McCracken County will demonstrate their
financial support by funding a $3 million bond issue for the construction of the Four
Rivers Center utilizing the revenue from an increase in the local transient room tax.
