HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-2-5455470 ORDINANCE NO. 96-2-64_5,_5_ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SUB -SECTION (a) OF SECTION 12- 19, "NUMBER, RANK AND SALARIES OF MEMBERS" OF ARTICLE II, "FIRE DEPARTMENT", OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Sub -section (a) of Section 12-19, "Number, rank and salaries of members " , of Article II "Fire Department", of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah is hereby amended to read as follows: "Sec. 12-19. number, rank and salaries of members of department. That Subsection (b) of Section 12-19, "Number, rank and salaries of members," of Article II "Fire Department" of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, be amended and reordained so that same as amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows: "(b) In the event employees of the fire department act in a position of responsibility higher than the position the employee holds, and provided the period of responsibility is at least six (6) hours during any work shift, the employee shall be compensated as follows: Effective July 1, 1987, captain acting as assistant chief, $14.50, per shift, and effective July 1, 1988, $15.00 per shift; lieutenant acting as captain, effective July 1, 1987, $11.50 per shift and effective July 1, 1988, $12.00 per shift; firefighter acting as lieutenant, effective July 1, 1987, $10.50 per shift and effective July 1, 1988, $11.00 per shift. Such compensation shall be paid for any condition creating an absence within a position for which the acting officers are required to serve, including vacancy within the position, illness, vacations and holiday times, acting in another position, or temporary additional assignments. Such compensation shall not be paid for assignments resulting from members taking accumulated time, operating on work -back provisions, attending school or seminars, or for any other reason than stated above. Acting pay shall be accounted for by the assistant fire chiefs, and payment shall be made annually on the last paycheck in the calendar year. Acting pay shall be subject to all payroll deductions." SECTION 3. That Subsection (c) of Section 12-19, "Number, rank and salaries of members", of Article II"Fire Department" of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, is hereby amended to read as follows: "(c) Captains, lieutenants and firefighters shall be paid the aforesaid hourly rates during each weekly period beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday for the first forty (40) hours of duty, and at one and one-half (1'/z) times said hourly rates for each duty hour in excess of forty (40)." SECTION 4. That Subsection (d) of Section 12-19, "Number, rank and salaries of members", of Article II " Fire Department" of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, is hereby amended to read as follows: "(d) A firefighter who is regularly assigned as a relief driver by the chief of the fire department, after approval by the city manager, shall for such assignment receive additional compensation in an amount not to exceed ten cents ($.10) per hour." i�D C; SECTION 5. That Sec. 12-48, "Salary of trainees", of Article II "Fire Department" of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, be amended and reordained so that same as amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows: "Each person employed as an applicant -candidate for employment as a firefighter shall be paid, effective July 1, 1991, the hourly wage of $5.46, at the same time other regular firefighter wages are paid, and such wage shall be for training time at the rate of forty (40) hours per week. Upon completion of a minimum of thirty (30) days' and a maximum of sixty (60) days' training as an applicant -candidate, the individual shall, upon recommendation of the Chief of the Paducah Fire Department, be assigned for further training with a regular platoon." SECTION 6. This ordinance shall be retroactive to July 1, 1995. SECTION 7. The salary increases retroactive to July 1, 1995, are being implemented for employees who wer full-time employees prior to July 1, 1995, who are not currently represented by any bargaining unit and whose current salary level is $35,000 or less per year. SECTION 8. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and shall become effective upon summary publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
