ORDINANCE INCREASING THE SALARY OF CITY COMMISSIONERS
OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH; PROVIDING FOR ANNUAL
ADJUSTMENTS INACCORDANCE WITH ERS 83A.075; AND
f REPEALING PRIOR INCONSISTENT ORDINANCES
WHEREAS, KRS 83A.075, adopted by the Legislature of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky, mandates that cities shall set the compensation of officers at a rate no greater than that
stipulated by the Department of Local Government; and
WHEREAS, by ordinance enacted in 1986, the Board of Commissioners of the City of
Paducah established the base salary of each member at $7,200.00, and provided for annual adjustments;
and
WHEREAS, as provided by law, the Board of Commissioners has received cost -of -living
increases since 1986, but has not otherwise increased the salary of its members since said time, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has reviewed the adequacy of salaries for
Commissioners and has been advised that it is entitled by law to set Commissioners' salaries at a rate not
to exceed that established by the Department of Local Government; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah to
make reasonable salary adjustments allowed by KRS 83A.075;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City of Paducah, Kentucky:
SECTION 1. Effective January 1, 1997, the salary of each member of the Board of
Commissioners, excluding the Mayor, shall be the sum of $13,460.39 per year. The Mayor's salary shall
remain unchanged at $14,528.30 per year.
SECTION 2. Effective January 1, 1998, the salary of the Mayor and Commissioners
shall be adjusted annually to increase or decrease the salary in line with the Consumer Price Index of the
preceding calendar year, using 1949 as the base year, in accordance with Section 246 of the Constitution of
Kentucky, based on the report of the Department of Local Government, published between January 1 and
the second Friday in February of each year.
SECTION 3. All prior ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed to the extent
of the inconsistencies.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and become effective
upon publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
