AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE FINANCE
DIRECTOR TO PAY THE SUM OF $27,992.83 TO CENTRAL PAVING COMPANY
OF PADUCAH FOR THE OWEN STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
WHEREAS, in the professional opinion of the City
Engineer of the City of Paducah, the Owen Street Bridge was in a
physical condition which constituted a threat to traffic and
the traveling public; and
WHEREAS, on May 13, 1997, the Board of Commissioners
agreed that the Owen Street Bridge was in an unsafe manner and
immediate repairs were required and adopted Ordinance No.
97-5-5675 which authorized and directed the Mayor to execute a
request for funds with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Emergency
Municipal Aid Fund, Transportation Cabinet, in the amount of
$32,000 for the Owen Street Bridge Replacement Project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah, through the office of
the City Engineer, submitted to Mr. Steve Taylor, Director of
Rural and Municipal Aid, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, a
request seeking emergency funds to replace the Owen Street
Bridge; and
WHEREAS, the Transportation Cabinet of the
Commonwealth of Kentucky concurred with the City's evaluation
and authorized $32,000 to be expended for emergency replacement
of the Owen Street Bridge; and
WHEREAS, in order to complete the replacement and
eliminate the existing emergency condition that existed, the
office of the City Engineer negotiated a non-competitive
bidding contract with Central Paving Company of Paducah; and
WHEREAS, the services of Central paving Company of
Paducah have now been completed and the company has submitted
invoices to the City in the total amount of $27,992.83, which
the City Engineer believes to be a fair, just and reasonable
SUM.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the Finance Director is authorized
to pay the sum of $27,992.83 to Central paving Company of
Paducah for the Owen Street Bridge Replacement Project.
SECTION 2. This expenditure shall be charged to
Account No. 040-3315-532-2307-ST0006.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be read on two
separate days and will become effective upon summary
publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
