AIN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE SALARY OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, CON �DG ANNUAL ADJUSTMENTS AND REPEALING PRICON5STENT ORDINANCES WHEREAS, KRS 83A.075 mandates that cities shall set the compensation of elected officers at a rate no greater than that stipulated by the Department of Local Government; and WHEREAS, by ordinance enacted in 1984, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah established the base salary of the mayor at $10,000.00 per year and of the commissioners at $7,200.00 per year, and additionally, provided for annual adjustments as authorized by KRS 83A.075, all of which was made effective as of January 1, 1986; and WHEREAS, by ordinance enacted in 1996, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah essentially amended the 1984 ordinance by increasing the base salary of each member of the Board of Commissioners; and WHEREAS, subsequent to the enactment of said ordinance, an issue arose concerning such increase, and payment of same to several of the commissioners; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners desires to resolve such issue; and WHEREAS, the Bogard of Commissioners has once again reviewed the adequacy of the base salaries for th,- ;payor and commissioners; and WHEREAS, the Board of Comriissioners desires to make reasonable salary adjustments as allowed by KRS 83A.075. NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City of Paducah, Kentucky: SECTION 1. The mayor and each member of the Board of Commissioners shall continue to receive their base salary presently paid to them by the City of Paducah, Kentucky. Effective January 1, 1999 the base salary of each member of the Board of Commissioners shall be increased to $15,500.00 per year. Effective January 1, 2001, the base salary of the mayor shall be increased to $18,000.00 per year. SECTION 2. The bass; salary of the mayor and commissioners shall continue to be adjusted annually to increase or decrease the salary in line with the consumer price index of the preceding calendar year, using 1949 as the base year, in accordance with Section 246 of the Constitution of Kentucky, based on the report of the Department of Local Government published between January 1 and the second Friday in February of each year. This annual adjustment shall be de,;.n ;d a continuing adjustment from and after the original effective date for such adjustment ei January 1, 1986. SECTION 3. All prior ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of the inconsistencies. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and will become effective upon summary publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
