Paxton Park Paducah KY June 20, 2023, 2023 Meeting of the Paducah Golf Commission Meeting called to order by Chairman Rick Loyd at 6:00 PM at Paxton Park. Chairman Loyd led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioners Present: Rick Loyd, Mark Knecht, Steve Seltzer, Mark Kettler, Mark Thompson, John W. Gill, & Jeanne Stroup, Secretary/Treasurer. Others Present: Director Daniel R. Mullen Motion by John Gill to approve the May Minutes as written. Motion Second by Mark Thompson. Motion carried. Director Mullen updated the Commission on the following: OLD BUSINESS: • City budget assistance (2nd half) for 2022/2023 has been received and put in the bank. Discussed meeting with City personnel regarding assistance and transition request proposal. The meeting was positive and productive. Chairman Rick Loyd & Commissioner Mark Thompson both attended in addition to Director Mullen. Discussed needs for greens mower that we would like to get this year. Also discussed Assistant Professional position but will likely be pursued in the Fall. Director Mullen did send a proposal back to City Manager with information regarding usage of funds. Both Commissioner Thompson and Chairman Loyd felt they were receptive to our needs. • No further communication on clubhouse renovations status yet from the City • Sentry Insurance proposal was received today. Director Mullen indicated he would communicate with Kenny Roth at Peel & Holland to see what new rates will be from Cincinnati so we can compare coverages, then determine how to proceed. • Talked to Modern Fence and they have provided us with best bid for fencing. Have not contracted yet. • Knoxbox is still waiting on installation. 0 Discussion on final financials for City Am. NEW BUSINESS: • Stumps were ground up today, a private donation was made to rent the stump grinder. Private donation to pay for a load of dirt to be used on the course. Another individual also approached Director Mullen and offered to donate funds to help improve #4 tee box. Our new web site is online. Director Mullen indicated he plans to learn administrative process on sending out email blasts in near future. Website will be geared more to daily fee player because it is believed to be visited more for this purpose. Commissioner Thompson suggested we also include a merchandising aspect on the website. • Updated the Commission on golf course staff turnover. • Informed Commission of situation with neighbors next to 6 green. Had a situation where they were hitting balls from their yard over the trees onto #6. Director Mullen impressed upon them the safety issues this potentially creates. Incident report will be prepared and filed for future reference. It is believed this situation has been resolved. Informed Commission of meeting with Commissioner Guess requested by Commissioner Guess. A comment allegedly attributed to Commissioner Guess (heard at the Country Club that had been relayed to Commissioner Guess regarding Paxton Park personnel) was the subject of the meeting. Commissioner Guess wanted to express his concerns that the personnel comment relayed to him, but attributed to him, was untrue. • Cobb tournament update. Budget provided. Invoices have been sent out to all previous sponsors. The tournament favor will be a cap this year. • Discuss green fee volume YTD. Daily fees up 30% first 5 months. Seeing new faces regularly. • Discussion about planting trees around #6 to protect the course, as well as homes around the hole. • Secretary Stroup went over financials.
