HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-6-6207502 ORDINANCE NO. 2000-6- 6=�-07 AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A SMOKE-FREE POLICY FOR THE CITY OF PADUCAH WHEREAS, the Mayor and Commissioners are concerned about protecting the health of City employees and of visitors to City facilities; and WHEREAS, smoking and secondary smoke are a proven cause of multiple health problems; and WHEREAS, the City and its employees are facing a significant increase in the cost of health insurance. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. In order to provide the highest level of protection for the health of employees, citizens, and visitors using or working in City of Paducah facilities, all City facilities are hereby designated as "smoke-free". SECTION 2. Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed facilities owned or controlled by the City of Paducah. SECTION 3. The City Manager will provide for containers for the disposal of cigarettes and smoking materials bearing the International No Smoking Sign to be placed at the main entrances of each City facility. SECTION 4. The City Manager will designate a staff smoking area at the exterior of each City facility at a location where ventilation and air exchange are adequate and where there are no restrictions otherwise placed by the State Fire Marshal or other similar authority. SECTION 5. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and will become effective upon summary publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
