HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-21-2022FEB 0 7 2023 c:o-YCLER:f 242230 MINUTES OF BROOKS STADIUM COMMISSION MEETING 10-21-22 A called meeting of the Commission was conducted on 10-21-22 at Paducah City Hall,: presided over by President Frank Hideg. Board members present were'Frank Hideg; Tyler Parker, Jay Smith, Bill Pinkston, Chris Cappock, Greg McKeel, Howard Finley, and Arnie Clark (ex officio for City Parks Department). The Meeting was called to order by President Hideg. An invocation was offered by Jay Smith, Howard Finley led the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes of the Commission meeting of 4-27-22 were read by Commission `, Secretary Bill' Pinkston. After motion made and seconded, the Commission voted to accept the minutes. A financial report prepared by Commission Treasurer Chip Cox was read by. President Hideg, Mr. Cox having been unable to attend the meeting. In summary, for the .ear 11-1-21 through 9-30-22, the gross profit for Brooks Stadium ,was $146,071,94,; the total expenses were $138,788.86; the net income was $7,283,08. President Hideg reported that Mr. Cox asked him to poin,t,out that when you compare net income for the past years, this was the first year the Commission did not have capital expenses; we nonetheless only made about $5,000 more than in 2021. The current cash balance was reported to be $61,413.22. After motion made and seconded, the Commission voted to accept the financial report. President Hideg reported on the state of Brooks Stadium, as follows: ® The City of Paducah has performed many improvements to the roads and sidewalks around the stadium, which all look great. However, much dust was raised during the process so the stadium had to be repeatedly washed off and repainted. We appreciate that the City waited to start such repairs until after the Chiefs' season so that they could play all their games. ® Two college teams wanted to use the ballpark in September but they were turned down since the field needed to be seeded then. President Hideg researched the planting issue and believes that next fall seeding can be done later in September to facilitate college play and additional tournaments. + Some vandalism has occurred recently: the large mower had plastic particles introduced into the gas tank, causing problems. A search'for a reasonably -priced repair estimate has commenced. Also, vandals moved the big fan around to the maintenance area beneath the stadium and blew sand inside, which required extensive cleanup work. Parks Director�Arriie Clark stated that she would investigate the possibility of having the City install security video cameras in strategic locations around the Stadium but that such would depend on budgetary considerations within the City. + President Hideg expressed his thanks to the City for its continued excellent support of Brooks Stadium. + After motion made and seconded the Commission voted to accept President Hideg's report. The Commission thereupon discussed desired improvements to the Diamond Deck on the left field foul line, including the possibility of adding a concrete pad to the outside (toward the street) of the existing deck. Greg McKee[ provided design drawings prepared by PFGW Architects to illustrate possible additions. The Commission discussed its desire to build another diamond deck, this one on the right field foul line. Greg McKeel provided design drawings to illustrate a possible structure prepared by PFGW Architects. Greg said he would discuss a cost projection with contractors, which the Commission approved. The Commission agreed that if the cost projection was reasonable and affordable, it would like to have this diamond deck in place by the start of the Chiefs' 2023 season. The Commission agreed that construction of the right field line deck and expansion of the left field deck would help address an increasing demand by corporate entities and other groups for their own "night" at the Stadium. ' The Commission has attempted to have constructed additional, tall sponsor signs built in center field, resting on support structures that would be built outside the wall. President Hideg reported that a contractor, Ken Leonard, has been paid $2,700 so far to build the signs but has not started work. Mr. Leonard had agreed to build this for a total of $5,400. The Commission agreed that it wanted the sign project completed by the end of the year or it would take steps to recover the $2,700 spent so far. Greg McKeel, GM of the Chiefs, reported on a list of possible players for the 2023 season. Terry Tripp, Sr., will be the field manager next season. Mr. Tripp formerly was head of scouting for the Atlanta Braves, so his baseball credentials are superb. Upon motion made and seconded, the Commission voted to adjourn the meeting. William E.
