HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-12-2022OCT 1 0 2022 Paducah Civic Beautification Board CITY CLERKSeptember 12th, 2022 City Hall In attendance: Karen Petter, Jackie Smith, Paul Grumley, Carol Vanderboegh, Monica Feiler, Bruce Carter, Staci Drake, Whitney Wallace, Ronna Ward. Wayne Armbruster, Nic Hutchison, Ania Lasota, Phyllis Clymer and John Park. I. The meeting was called to order by Jackie Smith the chair. Phones silenced for the Pledge of Allegiance. II. Mayor Bray and Pam Spencer were in attendance. Both spoke about the beautification of the city and the progress we need to make. III. The Board welcomed new members Stacey Drake and Whitney Wallace. IV. Jackie spoke about the awards for businesses in the city limits - improvements to their outside areas. Possibly 10 awards shall be given. V. Treasurer: Ronna noted we have $7185.45 in our account. Some Dogwood checks still have not been cashed. VI. Minutes of last month's meeting were noted and approved. Carol motioned and Phyllis seconded. VII. Corresponding Secretary: notes were sent to both new members. VIII. General discussion: The Mayor is behind us for pick up Paducah. Possibly include GPED and driving around to look at what areas need care. Carol suggested flyers to all citizens. The river project is an issue since the boats arrive at the foot of Broadway. Ugly site. Discussion was made if the city needs to clean up behind the flood wall or CBB. The concrete planters need to be a concern since there are weeds in them now. Ideas of plantings were brought forth. Jackie asked Brian Carter to head a small committee for this project. Paul asked for suggestions for the riverfront. He suggested that the whole city needs to be involved to clean up. Discussion of maybe a party with food and drinks be had for this event. And who is going to be responsible for the maintenance of the planters? IX. Membership: New members already introduced. X. House of the month: John said they picked 307 S. 25th Street as the HOM. XI. Children's Memorial Garden: Dogwoods did not survive again. Jackie suggested we may need to just go simple this time. However, we need to contact Carolyn Roof to ask for her advice. XII. Tree Board: No report. Paul asked if we have heard from the city about the trees on Pines Rd. No response. XIII. Monument: No report XIV. Dogwood Trail: Jackie met with the mayor and asked for the new signs to paid by the city. The mayor wants to see the old signs. Jackie wants to keep it simple, but more visual and directional. Brighter. New banners will stay with the theme of the Dogwood Trail. Monica reported the art project from schools are under way already. Notice will be sent in Oct. XV. Civic Beautification Awards: Paul and Laura have been working on getting frames for the awards. We decided there will be 2 awards this fall. XVI. Jackie reminded us of the master gardeners' workshops. XVII. Meeting was adjourned at 1:05 pm. Respectfully submitted by Karen Petter
