Paxton Park Paducah KY September 20, 2021 NOV — 12021 Meeting of the Paducah Golf Commission CITY CLERK Meeting called to order by Chairman Loyd at 6:00 PM at Paxton Park. Chairman Loyd led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioners Present: Chairman Rick Loyd, Mark Knecht, Steve Seltzer, Bill Wells, Mark Kettler, John W. Gill, & Jeanne Stroup, Secretary. Others Present: Director Daniel R. Mullen Motion by John Gill to approve the August Minutes as written. Motion Second by Bill Wells. Motion carried. Chairman Loyd requested presentation of Old Business: OLD BUSINESS: • Director Mullen let Commission know that the City Contract for Services check installment #1 has been received for $42,500 (1st half of annual fee). • Banterra Bank has renewed 3 -year title sponsorship agreement for the Cobb. Commissioner John Gill indicated the invoice has been sent in for payment to Banterra. Commissioner Knecht indicated he has not met yet with Jim Smith Contracting with respect to their Cobb Sponsorship. • Director Mullen stated he and his staff have not had time to sod the banks of the new practice green yet. It may not be completed this Fall. • The 2nd protective tarps for the greens have been received and paid for. • Landscaping project around the pavilion has been completed, including installing existing memorial plaques. • Tri State Senior tournament was held this weekend and while the weather threatened, things went well. Went over budget for tournament. Special recognition given to Commissioner Mark Kettler who volunteered his time to work the first tee all weekend, and to Commissioner Bill Wells, who worked the carts this weekend. • Claudia Meeks responded to our question on the Open records information and stated Paxton Park could handle the Open records requests, if any, since the records were kept here and asked that if any were ever received to please forward them a copy of the request and the information sent out as a result. o Asa result of this, we will add some text to our website for anyone who might want to request information and how to go about it. • No response yet on the question posed regarding the pump timer, however, repairs have been made and the necessary parts was just over $2,000. • Baird will be our title sponsor for the Kenny/Russ Charity Scramble on October 29. Director Mullen requested that anyone with any leads on other sponsors would be appreciated. • Director Mullen updated the Commission with respect to tree cutting on the course. The large, dead oak on the other side of the fence on #5 has been dropped by Paducah Tree Service and they also cut several high, dead limbs from the tree next to #3 tee the same day. Cost was $650. • The new senior ladies/super senior men/junior tees (silver) arrived last week and will be put on the course this week. NEW BUSINESS: Director Mullen indicated he and his staff will begin late season preparations for the golf course beginning this week which includes o raising the cutting height of our turfgrass on greens, tees, and fairways o fall pre -emerge (for poa) applications to greenside aprons and tees o fall fungicide applications (for spring dead spot) for greens o late season fertilization including nitrogen and potash applications which are regular supplements, combined with sulfur applications to certain greens based on annual soil tests. o Additional late season activities will include more tree removal and trimming up most trees all over the course, as well as getting the stumps ground out. o Rip rap to be put in the ditches in certain erosion spots. • Director Mullen also noted that he plans to get the parking lot striped later in the year, once the grass slows down and mowing has ceased for the most part (usually late October)—hopefully before the leaf debris starts falling. • August green fee play was down 2% ---YTD is up 2% thru the first 8 months. September has been down about 15% so far this year, despite beautiful weather for the most part. • Chairman Rick Loyd commented on how great the course looks and the asset it is to our community. He also noted the exceptional job Director Mullen is doing for the course. • Secretary Stroup went over current financials Motion to Adjourn made by Bill Wells. Motion Second by Mark Knecht.
