HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-19-2021The Paducah Creative & Cultural Council convened for a Council meeting on Aug. 19, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. via video and/or audio teleconference. Upon a call of the roll, the following answered to their names: April Cochran, Shand Stamper, City Planning Director Nic Hutchison, Steven Page (4) Members. Melanie Reason was present. Council members Cindy Ragland and Mary Katz were not present. City Clerk Lindsay Parish and Katie Axt were also in attendance. In order to keep the Council and public safe in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak and in accordance with Kentucky Executive Order 2020-243 and SB 150, all members of the Creative & Cultural Council participated using video and/or audio teleconferencing. The public was invited to view the meeting via the Zoom Virtual Meeting Link and call-in phone number. I APPROVE MINUTES FOR July, 2021 M. Reason moves to approve minutes. N. Hutchinson seconds. No objections. All in favor. Minutes approved. II Update Socially present directory project (L. Parish) Socially Present has been contracted and will be building the website. Initial meeting Sept 1. III. Lowertown street art mural update (M. Reason) Lowertown neighborhood completed street art project. It was a win for beginning the process of approving art in public spaces. Next steps: committee Katie Axt - city perspective: implementation of first intersection mural went well. City services, community, artist collaboration on design, very smooth positive experience. Thrilled with results. Want to do more. Does the council agree that another mural would be valuable. More diverse design proposals: how do we get that and move it forward? Maybe show how the council supports artists to do projects like this. S. Stamper will write a card to thank artist members for their work on the proposal and project. Michael Terra, Char Downs, John Romang, LTNA officers to receive cards. Public art committee will talk about this process at the next meeting. Meetings: We may meet in person We will check our schedules to see if we can change the day we meet. IV. Public Art Project - A. Cochran presented a letter the Terras submitted generally outlining their MANY HANDS public art project which they wanted the Council to consider. As our Council is still in the planning stages of codifying our process, A. Cochran will reach out and thank them for their energy and interest and that at this time, we are not moving forward with reviewing individual project proposals, until we are further along in our process.
