SENATE BILL 123 PROVIDING FOR A SHARING OF THE IENTUCKY STATE SALES TAX
WITH CITIES AND COUNTIES
WHEREAS cities and local governments of the Commonwealth of Kentucky
are finding it increasingly difficult to finance their necessary and
essential functions and operations; and
WHEREAS sources of revenue for the operation of city and local
governments are limited by statute; and
WHEREAS the City of Paducah is presently using almost every revenue
source available to it and has found it necessary that new sources of
revenue be provided in order to meet the demands placed on it by its
citizens and by various statutes enacted by the General Assembly of
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE
CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
That this Board endorses and recommends the passage
of Senate Bill 123 now before the Kentucky General Assembly in Frankfort,
Kentucky, which Bill provides for sharing state sales taxes with city
and county governments, and this Board finds that in order for the
government of the City of Paducah to meet the demands of its citizens
and the requirements imposed upon it by the Kentucky Revised Statutes
that it is essential that it have additional sources of revenue made
available to it by statute or that state revenues be refunded or shared
with it or that the city be exempt from the requirement of paying directly
or indirectly any taxes to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
SECTION 2. That the Mayor be, and he is hereby, authorized and
directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to each and every member
of the 1970 Kentucky General Assembly, including all Senators and
Representatives and to all elected executive officials, including but
not limited to, the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
