HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 17, Page 276, No Resolution Number276 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE IMPROVEMENT OF U. S. HIGHWAY 45 BETWEEN PADUCAH AND MAYFIELD, KENTUCKY WHEREAS, the vehicle traffic on U. S. Highway 45 between Mayfield and Paducah is dangerously heavy at times for a two lane undivided highway such as now exists, and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that there will be an increase in population and vehicle traffic throughout the years adding further congestion and danger on said highway, and WHEREAS, with the completion of I-24 at Paducah and the new interstate bridge over the Ohio River more north -south traffic will pass through Paducah and use U. S. 45 to Mayfield, Kentucky, or to the Purchase Parkway at Mayfield, and WHEREAS, the Kentucky Department of Highways has tentatively proposed a corridor for the location of a new U. S. 45 four lane divided highway with six alternative routes, and WHEREAS, this Board is vitally concerned with the immediate planning, location and construction of such a new road and its effect on the economy and general welfare of the City of Paducah, and WHEREAS, this Board has considered the many factors concerning the desirability of such a highway. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That this Board publicly declare its support for the proposal of a new four lane divided highway to upgrade or replace the existing U. S. 45 from Paducah to Mayfield, Kentucky, within the corridor as presently proposed by the Kentucky Highway Department. SECTION 2. That this Board publicly declare its support for the general location and tentative plan for alternate No. 6 as is now proposed by the Kentucky Department of Highways for such road. SECTION 3. That the Mayor be authorized and directed to express the views of this Board and to present a copy of this Resolution to the Kentucky Department of Highways at any meeting held by the Department or other interested groups concerning the desirability of the upgrading of the Paducah -Mayfield Highway, and to specifically tender a copy of this Resolution at the meeting scheduled for such purposes in Mayfield Kentucky on September 9, 1970. 277 SECTION 4.
