HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 17, Page 1041, No Resolution NumberA RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO BAIL BONDING PRACTICES IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH WHEREAS, the Paducah -McCracken Development Council, the Greater Paducah Chamber of Commerce and the McCracken County Bar Association have heretofore adopted resolutions requesting various governmental authorities to investigate bail bonding practices in Paducah, McCracken County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and WHEREAS, it is and has been the desire of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, to do all in its power to eliminate abuses in bail bonding procedures. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the Mayor be authorized and directed to establish a committee singularly or jointly with the Judge of McCracken County, to investigate thoroughly the bail bonding practices in the City of Paducah and in the Paducah Police Court and the Paducah Police Department, and members for the committee should be appointed as representatives from the Paducah -McCracken Development Council, the Greater Paducah Chamber of Commerce, the McCracken County Bar Association, the Paducah Police Department, the Paducah Police Court, and at least two interested citizens at large from the community, and in the event the County Judge jointly appoints a committee, there should be additional representation from the County Court and the Sheriff's Department SECTION 2. The said committee shall have the cooperation of all city employees and department heads, and shall have free access to all public records of the Paducah Police Department and the Paducah Police Court. The said committee shall be requested to report all of its findings of fact and to make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners for improvement in practices in the City of Paducah relating to procedures involving arrests, detention and release with or without bail. SECTION 3. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Chairman of the Paducah -McCracken Development Council, the President of the Greater Paducah Chamber of Commerce, the President of McCracken County Bar Association, the McCracken County Judge, the Commissioner of Insurance for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the 0 1042 Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
