HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 17, Page 1011, Ordinance Number 72-4-641ORDINANCE NO. 72-4-641 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 25-1 (a), (c), (d), (i) AND ADDING A NEW SUB -SECTION (j), AND AMENDING SECTIONS 25-2 AND 25-3 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES CITY ( PADUCAH, KENTUCKY BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Section 25-1. "Number, rank and salaries of members of department.,, Sub -sections (a), (c), (d), and (i) be amended and reordained so that said section as amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows: Sec. 25-1. Number, rank and salaries of members of department. (a) The number and rank of members of the police department of the City of Paducah and their monthly salaries, provided said salaries are not changed by any annual apportionment ordinance hereafter adopted, shall be as follows: Position Number of Positions Base Monthly Salary Chief of Police 1 $905.00 First Assistant Chief of Police 1 780.00 Night Assistant Chief of Police 1 780.00 Chief of Detectives 1 780.00 Captain 8 670.00 Sergeants 14 620.00 Policemen 39 530.00 (c) The night assistant chief shall be paid at the rate of $780.00 per month until such time as he has completed 17 years of service with the city; at rhe expiration of 17 years of service he shall be paid at the rate of $785.00 per month; and at the expiration of 20 years of service he shall be paid at the rate of $790.00 per month. (d) The chief of detectives shall be paid at the rate of $780.00 per month until such time as he has completed 17 years of service with the city; at the expiration of 17 years of service he shall be paid at the rate of $785.00 per month; and at the expiration of 20 years of service he shall be paid at the rate of $790.00 per month. (i) All members of the department shall receive an initial clothing allowance of $125.00 and in the event such member shall fail to serve in the department for more than 75 days, all clothing purchased 1012 with the initial clothing allowance shall be returned to the department. Any policeman who is assigned to motorcycle patrol duty on one- third of his duty days shall, after his first nine months of such duty, receive an additional clothing allowance of $100.00; thereafter as he continues such duty he shall receive an annual $100.00 extra clothing allowance, which shall be paid on the anniversary date of the first extra allowance; provided, however, that if said date is nearer than three months to the date of the payment of the regular annual clothing allowance, the extra clothing allowance shall be paid three months before or after the regular date, whichever is nearer. SECTION 2. That Section 25-1 "Number, rank and salaries of members of department", be amended and reordained by adding twereto a new sub -section (j) which shall hereafter read as follows: "(j) All policemen shall be paid an annual supplementary expense allowance for uniforms, meals, etc. in the amount of $360.00 less any sum paid for an initial clothing allowance. Such sours shall be paid in quarterly installments of $90.00 each on March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31, and shall accrue at the rate of $30.00 per month. For the purposes of calculating a month, full credit shall be given after the fifteenth day. The expense allowances shall be paid on non -payroll checks, and shall not be subject to any deductions, except as may be required for taxes." Any amounts paid to any policeman for uniforms in 1972 for January 1 through March 31, in excess of $30.00 shall be deducted from quarterly installments until the full amount has been recovered by the city treasurer. SECTION 3. That Section 25-2 "Compensation of officers for attending court while off-duty - Prescribed," shall be amended and reordained so that said section as amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows: "Sec. 25-2. Compensation of officers for attending court while off duty. There shall be paid the sum of $6.00 to each police officer of the city for each day or part thereof that he is required to attend any court while off duty. The compensation so provided shall be in addition to the regular compensation of police officers and shall be subject to all current payroll deductions." 1013 SECTION 4. That Section 25-3. "Same - Is in addition to regular compensation and subject to payroll deductions", be amended and re - ordained so that said section as amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows: "Sec. 25-3. Compensation of officers for education. There shall be paid to each police officer of the city the following amounts for the following educational credits. For hours of college credit in law enforcement subjects only, each officer shall be paid an additional monthly compensation of $5.00 for the first nine hours of credit, $10.00 per month for twenty-one hours of credit, and $15.00 per month for thirty hours of credit. There shall be paid to each police officer of the city the following sums for the following hours of college credit, said pay being in addition to compensation authorized by other ordinances of the City. Provided fifty percent of the college credits are in law enforcement subjects, each officer shall be paid the sum of $5.00 per month for twelve hours of college credit, $10.00 per month for twenty-five hours of college credit, $15.00 per month for forty-five hours of college credit, and any police officer obtaining an associate degree in law enforcement shall be paid the sum of $25.00 per month. Compensation provided for in this section shall be subject to all current payroll deductions." SECTION 5. Sections 1 and 2 amend Section 1 of an ordinance adopted August 5, 1952, and which was last amended December 28, 1971. Section 3 amends Sections 1 and 2 of an ordinance adopted December 20, 1966, by combining two sections into one new section. Section 4 establishes a new section not heretofore provided for. SECTION 6. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption, and retroactive to April 1, 1972.
