HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 16, Page 807, No Resolution Number807 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PADUCAH, TOGETHER WITH THE COUNTY OF McCRACKEN TO BECOME THE ADMINISTERING BOARD FOR A COUNTY -WIDE CUMMONITY ACTION AGENCY UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AMENDMENTS OF 1967 WHEREAS, the Economic Opportunity amendments of 1967 permit one or more political jurisdictions in a county of over fifty thousand population to designate itself as the community action agency, and WHEREAS, the Purchase Area Economic Opportunity Council, the present agency for McCracken, Graves, Marshall and Calloway counties, will cease to exist on March 1, 1969, and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah finds that it would be in the best interest of the City of Paducah and the impovished in its jurisdiction, if the City, with the governing body of McCracken County, created a new community action agency, and WHEREAS, this action and designation would have been taken in March 1968 but for the fact that the Purchase Area Economic Opportunity Council needed the participation of McCracken County, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized and directed to take all action necessary and proper to effect the designation of the City of Paducah and the County of McCracken as the local community action agency under the provisions of the Economic Opportunity Act and the Economic Opportunity amendments of 1967. SECTION 2. The authority herein granted to the Mayor shall include, but not be limited to: Notifying the Office of Economic Opportunity of the City's intent; notifying all affected political subdivisions and jurisdictions of the City's intent; applying for recognition as a community action agency; giving assurances of compliance with the Office of Economic Opportunity Regulations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and executing any and all appropriate agreements not involving the immediate expenditure of money between the City and County or the City and the Office of Economic Opportunity, or both. SECTION 3. To the extent that it becomes necessary for the Mayor's signature to be attested by the City Clerk and for the seal of the City of Paducah to be placed on any document, the City Clerk is authorized to attest and seal same. 808 SECTION 4.
