HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 16, Page 279, No Resolution NumberA RESOLUTION DECLARING THE NEED FOR CONTINUING MASS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AND RESOLVING THAT ACTION WILL BE TAKEN TO ACQUIRE ENABLING LEGISLATION FROM THE STATE TO PERMIT THE CITY TO OBTAIN FEDERAL ASSISTANCE, OURSUANT TO THE URBAN MASS TRANSPORTATION ACT OF 1964, FOR FINANCING LOCAL MASS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICE WHEREAS, The Paducah Transit Corporation has advised the City Commission that it is not receiving an adequate return on investment, and WHEREAS, the said Corporation is faced with an additional loss of revenue as a result of the new school bus service inaugurated by the Paducah Board of Education, and WHEREAS, the said Corporation has advised the City Commission that it will be impossible for said Corporaticn to continue its operation and service in the City of Paducah, Kentucky without financial assistance, and WHEREAS, the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 provides for federal assistance to and with local governments for improvement of local mass transportation equipment and facilities, and WHEREAS, the necessary data for an application for federal assistance pursuant to the said Act has been compiled, and WHEREAS, it appears that it is presently unlawful for a city of the second class in Kentucky to operate its own transportation system or to take advantage of said federal assistance, and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners had determined that it is beneficial to continue mass public transportation in the City of Paducah, Kentucky, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the Mayor and Commissioners request the Kentucky State Legislature to enable cities of the second class to take advantage of said federal assistance. SECTION 2. That copies of this Resolution be distributed to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Legislative Research Commission and the Senator and Representatives from the City of Paducah. 280 SECTION 3. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, directed to review with appropriate federal authorities the data already compiled for an application for the said federal assistance. SECTION 4.
