HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 16, Page 145, No Resolution Number14� A RESOLUTION APPROVING AND ENDORSING THE AFFILIATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PADUCAH JUNIOR COLLEGE AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY, AND CONCURRING WITH THE FINDINGS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF PADUCAH JUNIOR COLLEGE WHEREAS, the University of Kentucky has heretofore prepared and tendered to the Board of Trustees of Paducah Junior College a proposed agreement which, if accepted and executed by the Board of Trustees of Paducah Junior College, would include the Paducah Junior College in the University of Kentucky Community College system. and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah has studied the proposed agreement, and WHEREAS, it appears to the Board of Commissioners from the terms and conditions of said proposed agreement that the interest and welfare of Paducah Junior College and the citizens of Paducah and McCracken County would be greatly served and furthered by Paducah Junior College affiliating with the University of Kentucky; that Paducah Junior College would be greatly benefitted financially from the broadened tax base and support which would be drawn not only from Paducah and McCracken County, but from the entire state of Kentucky; that Paducah Junior College would be benefitted from the professional assistance which would be received from the University of Kentucky in the administration and educational affairs of Paducah Junior College; that adequate provisions are provided in said agreement to safeguard the continuation of a substantial degree of local control; that local taxes paid for the support of Paducah Junior College, together with gifts' or grants made to Paducah Junior College, will provide for an enriched program of instruction at Paducah Junior College over and beyond the programs provided by the University of Kentucky in its other community colleges, and, that the interest and welfare of the citizens and residents of Paducah and McCracken County would otherwise be greatly benefitted and furthered by the execution of said agreement; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: SECTION 1. That the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah Kentucky approve and endorse, and the same hereby expresses its approval and endorsement of, the affiliation agreement by and between the Board of Trustees of Paducah Junior College and Board of Trustees of University of Kentucky, joining the Paducah Junior College with the University of 146 Kentucky pursuant to the provisions of KRS 164.593. SECTION 2. That the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah concurs with the findings of the Trustees of Paducah Junior College in that the execution of the agreement with the University of Kentucky will: 1. Provide the best possible permanent financial support for a junior college or community college program in,Paducah, and 2. Release all local funds for the support of programs which are in addition to those provided in the Community College System of the University, and 3. Preserve local control of the use of all local funds, and 4. Provide the best and most certain method of continuing to improve and expand the facilities for higher education in this ares, and 5. Provide the best possible route to the eventual establishment of a four year college in Paducah. SECTION 3.
