HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 16, Page 115, No Resolution NumberA RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR RESURFACING VARIOUS STREETS IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, INCLUDING THE RAISING AND RESETTING; OF MANHOLES BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to advertise for bids for the resurfacing of various streets in the City of Paducah, Kentucky, said work to be done under the following terms, conditions and stipulations: Rough or high points on the existing surface shall be graded where necessary and the present surfacing leveled where necessary with Class I, Type B Bituminous leveling course before placement of the approximately 1j inch application of Kentucky State Highway Class I, Type B Bituminous concrete surfacing, said work to include Bituminous prime coat RS -1 complying with Kentucky State Highway Specifications and the raising and resetting to grade of manholes, located in the areas to be resurfaced. The coarse aggregate in the surfacing shall consist of limestone aggregate and the materials, mixing and placing by finishing machine and rolling shall comply with Kentucky State Highway Specifications. The following minimum wage rates for McCracken County, Kentucky, Determination No. CR -2-073, dated August 25, 196-6, have been deter- mined by the Commissioner of the Department of Labor, Commonwealth of Kentucky, and not less than the rates listed shall be paid to the following trades and occupations: Classification Hourly Rate Bricklayers $4.50 Cement masons 3.90 Laborers - General 3.13 Laborers - Skilled 3.40 Truck drivers - 3 ton and under 3.38 over 3 tons 3.73 Operating Engineers - Class "A" Operators 4.33 Class "B" Operators 3.83 Class "C" Operators 3.48 Bids will be submitted on the basis of (1) price per ton of me surfacing to comply with the herein specifications, (2) price per t*allon for RS -1 Bituminous prime coat, and (3) a unit price for the raising and resetting manholes to grade. All work to be performed under the direction of the City of Paducah Engineering Department and the street areas to be resurfaced shall be designated by the City Manager. Such work shall be paid for upon certification of the completion thereof and when approved and accepted by the City Engineer. It is anticipated that approximately 9,300 tons, more or less, of surfacing will be required. 116 The successful bidder shall execute a performance bond in the amount of the estimated cost of the work to insure the proper per- formance and completion of said work, and in addition thereto will be required to keep in full force and effect liability insurance Protecting the city from anv claim .from persons or property of persons in the following amounts: $300,000 for personal injury or death to any one person; $500,000 for personal injury or death to more than one person resulting from the same accident, and $20,000 for darpage to property in any one accident. SECTION 2. The City Manager shall advertise .for bids by a notice posted at the City Hall door and by inserting notice of the request for bids in the Sun Democrat to be published as required by law. All bids shall he sealed and no bid shall be received after the hour fixed in the notice for the openinr- ofsame. All bids received by the City Manager up to the time fixed for the openinu of bids shall be filed with the Board of Commissioners who may let a contract to the lowest and best bidder, and the Board of Commissioners shall reserve the right to reject any and all bids and the City shall not become legally obligated to have such services performed until the adoption of an ordinance authorizing the execution of a contract for same.
