HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 16, Page 1148, Ordinance Number 69-12-2661148Y V i A sr t s_w ORDINANCE NO. 69-12-266 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE GRANTING OF LEAVES OF ABSENCE FOR VACATIONS, SICKNESS, AND MILITARY TRAINING TO ALL EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF 'PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AND PRESCRIBING THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH SUCH LEAVES OF ABSENCE MAY BE GRANTED," WHICH WAS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ON NOVEMBER 25, 1947, AND LAST AMENDED BY TEXT AND TITLE ON JANUARY 11, 1949 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Section 1 of an ordinance bearing the title quoted above, which was adopted on November 25, 1947 and amended on January 11, 1949, be, and the same is hereby amended and reordained so that said section as amended and reordained shall read as follows: "SECTION 1. Vacation Leave. Each employee of the City of Paducah regularly employed on a full time basis and appointed by the City 7 Manager, except members of the Police and Fire Departments, and the City S v Manager shall be entitled to vacation leave of one working day for each month of service, and each such employee may accumulate leave credits on this basis up to a maximum of eighteen working days. Each member of the Police and Fire Departments shall be entitled to vacation leave of 1-1/4 calendar days for each month of service and may accumulate leave credits on this basis up to a maximum of twenty-one calendar days. For purposes of this section a Saturday on leave shall be considered as one-half of a working day, and a month in which a salaried employee is paid for fifteen days or more and a daily or hourly wage employee is paid for twelve days or more shall be considered as a month of service. Vacation leave shall be taken by an employee upon approval of a department head at a time that will not interfere unreasonably with the operation of the department. An employee may be advanced the number of days of vacation leave that would be earned during the remainder of the current calendar year, but if an employee is separated from employment before such advance leave is accrued under this ordinance the employee shall reimburse the city for the amount of unaccrued leave that was taken, and for this pur- pose a deduction shall be made from the employee's final payroll check. 1149 Regular full time employees paid on an hourly wage basis shall receive vacation pay at their regular hourly rates for the number of hours in their regular daily shifts for each working day while on vacation leave. Upon termination of employment an employee shall be paid for any unused accrued vacation leave not to exceed eighteen working days, except that members of the Police and Fire Departments shall be paid for any unused accrued vacation leave not to exceed twenty-one calendar days. An employee granted a leave of absence with pay for any purpose shall continue to accrue vacation leave at the rate prescribed in this section during such absence. Since the members of the Fire Department work one twenty-four hour period on and have forty-eight hours off, they are permitted to take only five working days vacation per year. To equalize the total consecutive days of vacation allowable to members of the Fire Department with those available to members of the Police Department, a member of the Fire Depart- ment who will take all of his annual leave within the year and at one time shall be entitled to six working days of annual leave with pay." SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after January 1, 1970.
