HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 14, Page 644, No Ordinance NumberAN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR PENSIONS FOR POLICE COURT JUDGES - WHO, AFTER JULY 1, 1954, HAVE BECOME SIXTY YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE SERVED AS A REGULAR POLICE JUDGE, INCLUDING SERVICE PRIOR TO JULY 1, 1954 FOR A PERIOD OF TWENTY YEARS; OR WHO AFTER JULY 1, 1954 HAVE BECOME FIFTY-FIVE YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE SERVED AS REGULAR POLICE JUDGE, INCLUDING SERVICE PRIOR TO JULY 1, 1954, FOR A PERIOD OF TWENTY-FOUR YEARS; ESTABLISHING A SEPARATE FUND TO BE KNOWN AS "POLICE JUDGE PENSION FUND"; PROVIDING FOR PAYMENTS INTO SAID FUND; FIXING THE ANNUAL A161OUNTS OF SUCH PENSIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR A REFUND OF CONTRIBUTIONS IN CERTAIN INSTANCES BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. Pursuant to KRS 26.650 pensions are hereby granted to police court judges who, after July 1, 1954, have become sixty years of age and have served as a regular police judge, including service prior to July 1, 1954 for a period of twenty years; or who, after July 1, 1954, have become fifty-five years of age and have served as regular police judge, including service prior to July 1, 1954, for a period of twenty-four years. SECTION 2. Pursuant to KRS 26.655 there is hereby established a separate fund to be known as the "Police Judge Pension Fund", The regular police court judge shall contribute into said fund an amount equal to not more than five percent (5%) of his annual salary as police judge, such contribution to be deducted by the City Treasurer from the monthly pay of such police judge and credited to the Police Judge Pension Fund. The Police Judge Pension Fund shall be under the exclusive control and management of the city legislative body and in the event the fund is not sufficient to pay the pension:. as it becomes due, they shall, from police court fines, place into the said fund, a sum sufficient to meet its requirement. SECTION 3. The amount of pensions to be paid under the provisions of this ordinance shall be the sum of j2,400.00 per year for life. SECTION 4. Any police judge who has served less than twenty years as a regular police judge and who attempts to continue in service by being a candidate for re-election and is defeated, shall be refunded all contributions made to the fund by him upon the making of application therefor within one year from the date of said election as provided for by KRS 26.665,! 64.5 SECTION 5.
