HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 13, Page 922, No Ordinance Number97 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CONVEYANCE OF CERTAIN LAND AT THE NORTHIIEST CORNER OF HINKLEVILLE ROAD AND THOMPSON AVEPUE IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY TO THE PADUCAH JUNIOR CHAIdBER OF COPI&IERCE WHEREAS, the Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce has for thirty years shown strong interest in the welfare and improvement of 'this community. Among the improvements sponsored and accom- plished by them includes the Avenue of Flags and Paxton Park Golf Course. Much of the land for Paxton Park Golf Course was deeded to the City of Paducah by said Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce as also was the property directly across from the golf course on Jackson Street where a booster station of the City of Paducah Municipal Water ;Yorks is located. Also it was through the efforts of said organization that the monument at 28th and Jefferson Streets was erected in memory of the Late Alben U. Barkley, and WHEREAS, the Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce during its � existence has had no permanent place in which to hold its meetings and keep its records, resulting in the fact that a record of other accomplishments is not available, and WHEREAS, it is the belief of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah that such organization could better perform its civic projects and undertakings if it had a place from which to work, meet and maintain its records, and I+JHEREAS, such organization has adopted a building program whereby it plans to build a building not only to provide a permanent place to meet, to work from and keep its records, but of sufficient size to hold banquets, social functions, conventions and other public functions, and WHEREAS, it appears that such building will be a great improve- ment to the City of Paducah and will fill a much needed benefit in that it will sttract more conventions, meetings and functions to Paducah in the future, and WHEREAS, said organization has requested the City of Paducah to deed to it a parcel of land 200 foot square at the intersection of Hinkleville Road and Thompson Avenue, which parcel of land is in a portion of Noble Park not used by the public and is surplus to the needs of the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF C0I,24ISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: 923 SECTION 1. That the City of Paducah, Kentucky convey to Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce the following described tract of land situated in the City of Paducah, County of McCracken and State of Kentucky, to -wit: Beginning at a point in the north west corner of the intersection of Hinkleville Road with Thompson Avenue; thence westerly with the north line of Hinkleville Road 200 feet; thence north- wardly and parallel with Thompson Avenue 200 feet; thence eastwardly and parallel with Hinkleville Road 200 feet to a point on the west line of Thompson Avenue; thence southwardly with the west line of Thompson Avenue 200 feet to the point of beginning. Being a part of the same land conveyed to City of Paducah, Kentcky by Wadsworth Improvement Company by deed dated June 13, 1921, and of record in Deed Book 126, page 573 in he McCracken County Court Clerks office. SECTION 1. That the Mayor and City Clerk be, and they are hereby, authorized to execute a deed of conveyance conveying, on behalf of the City of Paducah, to Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce the land described in Section 1 hereof, which deed of conveyance shall contain no warranty as to title and shall contain the following provisions: (a) The Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce shall not have the right or authority to convey any part of said land without an ordinance, resolution or motion of the Legislative body of the City of Paducah authorizing such conveyance. However, this limitation is not to apply to the execution of a mortgage by Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce for funds to be used in the construction of a building, buildings or additions to same. (b) Any building erected on the aforesaid land shall be made available on a reasonable rental basis by Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce to other civic clubs, business companies and citizens of the City of Paducah. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be introduced and remain on file for public inspection for at least one (1),week in the com- pleted form in which it shall be put upon its final passage, and if adopted shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days thereafter. i Introduced by the Board of Commissioners May 24, 1958 Passed by the Board of Commissioners June 14, 1958 Recorded by Sarah Thurman, City Clerk, June 14, 1958.
