A RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSED DISCONTINUANCE OF PASSENGER TRAINS
NUMBERS 101 AND 102 BETWEEN LOUISVILLE AND FULTON, KENTUCKY BY ILLINOIS CENTRAL
RAILROAD COMPANY
WHEREAS, the Illinois Central Railroad Company has petitioned the
Kentucky Railroad Commission for permission to discontinue passenger trains
Nos. 101 and 102 between Louisville and Fulton, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS said proposed discontinuance would result in there being inadequate
train passenger service in and out of the City of Paducah in that said service
would be cut in half by such discontinuance; and
WHEREAS, the growth and development of Paducah will be greatly hindered
and reduced by such discontinuance and in view of the great need of these train
facilities during the present emergency caused by the growth of the City of
Paducah, County of McCracken and all of the Jackson Purchase area of Ke ntucky;
and
WHEREAS, the people and institutions of Paducah and Western Kentucky
need these services abd are entitled to them:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COM!1ISSIONERS OF THE CITY
OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the proposed discontinuance of passenger trains numbers
101 and 102, between Louisville and Fulton, Kentucky, which is now pending
before the Railroad Commission of Kentucky be and the same is hereby opposed by
the City of Paducah for the reasons that the discont8nuance of said service would
adversely affect the economic growth and development of the City of Paducah,
County of McCracken and adjacent counties in Western Kentucky and will work a
hardship and inconvenience on the citizens and institutions of said city and
territories.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Kentucky
Railroad Commission, Wayne Johnson, President of the Illinois Central Railroad
Company, and W. E. Davis, Superintendent of Kentucky Division, Illinois Central
Railroad Company.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its adoption.
