HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 12, Page 546, No Ordinance Number546 AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE USE BY TRAILERS AND SEMI -TRAILERS OF ALLEYS OF TEN (10) FEET OR LESS IN WIDTH IN A ZONE BOUNDED ON THE SOUTH BY THE LINE OF CLARK STREET, ON THE WEST BY THE EAST LINE OF 7TH STREET, ON THE NORTH BY THE SOUTH LINE OF MADISON STREET AND ON THE EAST BY THE OHIO RIVER, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF WHEREAS, that area bounded on the south by the north line of Clark Street, on the west by the east line of 7th street, on the north by the south line of Madison street and on the east by the Ohio River, being within the Fire Limits of the City of Paducah, is an area in which valuable property is located and in which hazards from fire are more predominate than in other sections of the city, and WHEREAS, it is deemed unsafe both from a fire hazard standpoint and from a police standpoint to permit trucks of the trailer tractor variety to use those narrow public alleys located within said area which alleys are 10 feet or less in width, and it being considered that the use of said alleys by this particular type of vehicle constitutes a police and fire hazard. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. Definitions. As used in this ordinance. (a) "Semi -trailer" means a vehicle designed to be attached to, and having its front end supported by, a motor truck or truck tractor, intended for the carry- ing of freight or merchandise and having a load capacity of over one thousand pound (b) "Trailer" means any vehicle designed to be drawn by a motor truck or truck tractor but supported wholly upon its own wheels, intended for the carriage of freight or merchandise, and having a load capacity of over one thousand pounds. SECTION 2. No person shall operate any motor truck or truck trailer with either a semi -trailer or trailer attached thereto in any public alley ten (10) feet or less in width in that area of the City of Paducah which is bounded on the south by the north line of Clark Street, on the west by the east line of 7th street, on t north by the south line of Madison street and on the east by the low water mark on the Ohio River. SECTION 3. Any person who violates the provisions of this ordinance shall be fined not less than ten ($)10.00) Dollars nor more than one hundred ($100.00) dollars for each offense. SECTION 4.
