HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 12, Page 388, No Ordinance Numberx AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE OBTAINING AND PROCURING OF LIFE INSURANCE ON THE GROUP PLAN FOR MEMBERS OF THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE PREMIUAiS THEREON", WHICH WAS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ON JUNE 16, 1936. WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Kentucky, by Chapter 93 of the Acts of 1932, provided that cities of the second class shall have authority by ordinance to form its employees of the police and fire departments into a group or groups for the purpose of obtaining the advantage of group plan life insurance, and to pay from public funds a certain part of such insurance premiums, and it being desirable that such insurance be procured for members of the police and fire departments in the City of Paducah, and the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company having proposed a plan for such insurance by which said employees who so elect to be insured under the proposed group plan will pay seventy (.70) cents of the monthly premium per w1000 of insurance out of their salaries or earnings, and the remaining part of said monthly premium shall be paid by the City, not exceeding fifty percent (500) of the monthly premium on said insurance, and should said monthly premium amount to more than J1.40, then said premium shall be paid equally by said employee and the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMAiISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That an ordinance containing the title qupted above, which was adopted by the Board of Commissioners on June 16, 1936, be, and the same is hereby amended and reordained so that said ordinance as amended and reordained shall read as follows: "Section 1. That all of the officers and employees of the Police and Fire Departments of the City of Paducah subject to insurability, and such others as may hereafter be added to the police force and fire department are hereby constituted a group for the purpose of obtaining the advantage of group plan life insurance. Said insurance may be procured upon an application or cpntract which shall be signed for and on behalf of the City of Paducah by the Mayor thereof, and such grou insuranc.0 shall continue and be in force, as to each member of said group, so long as such officer or employee continues their employment, and so long as they shall contribute to the premium fund for the payment of premiums on said insurance as hereinafter provided, and receive such benefits as may be provided in such insuranc, "SECTION 2. The gross premiums shall be paid by contributions from the p e� R� ?� employees of the police and fire departments and the City of Paducah on the follow- ing basis: The employees shall each contribute the sum of seventy cents (700) 2-0 monthly and the City of Paducah shall contribute the balance of the cost of said i monthly premium not exceeding fifty percent (50%) of said monthly amount. In the event said monthly premium exceeds the sum of $1.40 per employee then the monthly premiums will be paid by employees and the City in equal amounts. All earned dividends on such insurance policy or policies shall be paid tp the City of Paduca and shall be and become a part of the General Fund. "Section 3. Said premiums shall be paid in monthly installments and shall be s apart out of the amounts due and owing to said employees by the City of Paducah as of the payroll period ending the 15th day of each and every month hereafter so lon as said insurance shall remain in full force and effect. The John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company of Boston, Massachusetts, having proposed a plan of such group life insurance and by the terms of which each member of said group of insurance as herein provided would have an insurance benefit upon his life of ?1,000, the Mayor is authorized to execute by signing on behalf of the City of Paducah, and subject to the conditions contained in this ordinance any application, instrument or contract for the procurement of such insurance." SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect on and after the 25th day of June, 1951.
