HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 12, Page 296, No Resolution Number296 / A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO MAKE CERTAIN IMPROVEMENTS ON PARK AVENUE BETWEEN 17TH STREET AND THE CITY LIMITS WHEREAS, Park Avenue is a state and Federal Highway from 17th street to the City Limits, and the State Highway Department has assumed responsibility for construction and maintenance of said highway; and WHEREAS, the volumn of traffic moving through the city along the said highway has greatly increased since the announcement of the construction of the atomic energy plant on the site of the Kentucky Ordnance Works; and WHEREAS. most of the employees of said plant travel over said highway daily while going to and from work and the heavy traffic thereon endangers not only the lives of motorists, but also the lives of children who attend school and play in a public park located on said highway; and WHEREAS, sidewalks are also badly needed for use by pedestrians because of the exceedingly heavy traffic on said street; N0W THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the City of Paducah request the State Highway Department to immediately undertake the work of making the following improvements on Park Avenue; a. Increase the width of the pavement to 42 feet from curb to curb, from 17th Street west to the city limits. b. Construct the necessary curbs and gutters to provide pedestriams with safe walking space without interference by traffic from 17th Street to the entrance of Noble Park. SECTION 2. That the City Manager transmit to the Commissioner of Highway and to the Judge of the McCracken Fiscal Court a letter urging that immediate attention be given to the improvement of the aforesaid street, together with a certified copy of this resolution..
