A RESCLUTIOY APPROVING THE PLAI•i FOR THE ES TALL I&ttidiUT OF A 11IATIOI•iAL

WHEREAS, the citizens of Paducah desire to encourage the maintenance in
Paducah of an outstandin;:national Guard Unit, which would provide adequate
facilities for military training; and
'r'HEREAS, such a Unit mould be of great benefit to the community in the even;
of disaster, emergency, or other civil defense needs and promoting the interest
of national defense; and
l�?HERZAS, there has never been provided in Paducah adequate facilities for
military training, but such training has been shifted from one unsuitable place
to another until the present quarters were established at a remote, place within
the city, which is difficult to reach by most of the members, which has resulted
in lowering the morale of the members of the Unit and has greatly hindered its
-rowth; and
SdHEREAS, there is now organized in Paducah an Army Reserve Unit, which has
an authorized strength of more than 200, and two Haval Reserve Units with an
authorized strength of more than 70, and there are no adequate facilities in
the city for the training of any of these Units; and
YIIiuREAS, a _Iational Guard Armory would supply these needs and insure the
vrowth and efficiency of the _rational Guard and Reserve Units; and
1HEREAS,there is in Paducah a great demand for such facilities as would
be provided by an Armory for public ; at[ierinGs and convention assemblies, the
revenue from which would more than defray all costs of operation and maintenance
of an Armory; and
'MEREAS, the Adjutant General has continually promised from the year 1947
that Faducah would be the site for the next Armory, but has built and is proposing
to build other Armories in towns where it appears to us that the need is less and
the net cost of maintenance more than in Paducah, and now the Adjutant C'eneral
declares that Paducah .sill be ".-iven consideration" after the allocation of
Armories to other localities; and
�iEREAS, funds will soon be available under Public Law 785.
119W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF CO:.ii:il.iSIOIIERS OF THE CITY OF
PADU CAH, :KEPI TU CKY:
That the City of Paducah approve the plan of the Paducah Association o_'
Commerce and other interested organizations and individuals to secure a :rational
Guard Armory at Paducah of equal size and quality of comparable cities, namely,
Owensboro, and Ashland, and that all possible efforts be exerted to place
the facts su_-porting this plan before the a^ opriate off'cials.
