GREGORY TO USE THEIR INFLUENCE TO SECURE THE ADOPTION OF BILLS EXTE14DING SOCIAL SECURITY COVERAGE TO MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES WHEREAS, municipal employees are not now eligible for social security benefits and they should be entitled to these benefits without discrimination on the same basis as other citizens of the United States; and WHEREAS, HR2893 has been introduced in the House of Represen- tatives which would extend social security benefits to municipal employees, as well as many other additional classes of persons, such extension to be optional on the part of each city; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESODVED BZ THE BOARD OF COARdISSIONERS OF THE CI TY.OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Senator Virgil Chapman and Senator Garrett L. Withers be requested to contact members of the Senate Finance Comm- ittee and urge that Committee to report favorably a companion Senat bill to the bill designated as HR2893, with amendments to permit an city of any size to participate in the Social Security program without the intervention of State authority and to eliminate discrimination against any classes of municipal employees and such other amendment as may be proposed by the American Municipal Association, and ko exert their full efforts to secure final favorable action by the Senate on said bill with such amendments or any similar bill which is endorsed by the American Municipal Association. SECTION 2. That Representative Noble J. Gregory be requested to contact members of the House Ways and Means Committee and urge that committee to report favorably the bill designated as HR2893, with amendments to permit any city of any size to participate in the Social Security program without the intervention of State authority and to eliminate discrimination against any classes of municipal employees and such other amendments as may be proposed by the American Municipal Association, and to. exert his full effort to secure final favorable action by the House of Representatives on said bill with such amendments or any similar bill which is endorsed by the Ameicican Municipal Association.
