A RESOLUTION URGING SENATOR VIRGIL CHAPMAN, SENATOR
GARRETT L. WITHERS AND REPRESENTATIVE NOBLE J. GREGORY TO USE THEIR
INFLUENCE TO SECURE T'� ADOPTION OF BILLS PROVIDING FOR PAYMENTS IN
LIEU OF TAXES ON CERTAIN FEDERALLY -OWNED PROPERTY
WHEREAS, the Federal government has acquired and now owns
considerable property on which taxes were formerly paid to
municipal governments; and
NHEREAS, the withdrawal of such properties from taxation by
municipal governments has caused serious hardships to many cities
and imposes an unequal and unfair tax burden on other taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, such properties owned by the Federal government
receive the same municipal services and benefits as other properties
land require the expenditure of municipal funds for such services
land benefits; and
WHEREAS, the Federal government should assume its fair share
iof financing municipal services by making payments in lieu of taxes
Of such properties;
N0W THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTJCia:
SECTION 1. That Senator Virgil Chapman and Senator Garrett
L. Withers be requested to contact members of the Senate Interior a c
Insular Affairs Committee and urge that Committee to report favorab1I"
the bill designated as 5362 which would provide for such payments in
lieu of taxes and to exert their full efforts to secure final favor-
able action by the Senate on this bill or any similar bill which is
endorsed by the Americal Municipal Association.

SECTION 2. That Representative Noble J. Gregory be requested t
contact members of the House Public, Lands Committee and urge that
Committee to report favorably the bill designated as HR1356 which
would provide for such payments in lieu *of taxes and to exert his fug
efforts to secure final favorable action by the House of Representatl
on this bill or any similar bill which is endorsed by the American
Municipal Association.
SECTION 3. That the City Manager transmit a copy of this
resolution to Senator Virgil Chapman, Senator Garrett L. Withers and
3epresentative Noble J. Gregory.
