HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 11, Page 595, No Ordinance Number-/- 595 v AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 3 AND 5 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFYING AND LICENSING OF VEHICLES PLYING THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AND PRESCRIE A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF SAID ORDINANCE", WHICH WAS ADOPTED TRE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ON DECEMVER 30, 1937. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADU CAH, KENTUCKY: 1''a5 �3tid SECTION 1. That Sections 3 and 5 of the ordinance bearing the title quoted above, which was adopted on December 30, 1937, be and the same are hereby repealed, amended and reordained so that said sections as amended and reordained shall read as follows: "Section 3. The license tax required to be paid hereunder is as follows: For each motorcycle .................................... $1.00 For each and every passenger vehicle ................... 5.00 For each truck operated in the City of Faducah for business or for hire, and for the purpose of raising revenue for exercising regulation over said motor truck and for policing said city, and regulating the traffic therein and keeping in repair the public ways thereof, there is hereby levied and imposed, and ordered to be collected from all persons, firms, or corporations operating said motor trucks or trailers loading or unloading in the City of Paducah, Kentucky, a license tax or privilege license on said truck and trailers as follows: Motor trucks and trailers of one ton or less capacity ............................................. 5.00 Motor trucks and trailers of more than one ton capacity: First ton.......................................... 5.00 For each additional one-half ton or fraction thereof ............................................ 1.50 1 When trailers are attached to trucks or motor vehicles and used for business, or for hire, in Paducah, the ton capacity or load of such trailer shall be added to the ton capacity or load of said truck for the purpose of classifying said trucks into tonnage classll The City Treasurer is authorized, empowered and directed to collect the license tax provided herein, which tax shall be payable; on and after the first day of January in each year. If such license tax is not paid on or before the first day of March in each year, there shall be added thereto a penalty of 10% of the license tax due, and an additional penalty of 2% shall be added for each month or fracti of a month after March 31 that the license tax remains unpaid. If a person acquires and operates or causes to be operated after Marel 1 in any calendar year any motor vehicle subject to a license tax under this ordinance without first paying such license tax to the City Treasurer, such person shall pay a penalty of 10% of the lic- ence tax due, plus an additional penalty of 2% per month for each month of delay or fraction thereof after the first 30 days of dela; 596 The City Treasurer is directed and required to collect such penal- ties from any person who owes and fails to pay such a license tax when due. The license certificate or sticker issued by the City Treasurer shall be displayed in the lower right corner of the windshield on the licensed vehicle. "Section 5. Any person, corporation, firm, company, or any organization or group of persons, who violates any provision of this ordinance shall be fined not less than Five ($5.00) Dollars, nor more than Fifty ($50.00) Dollars. and each day this ordinance is so violated shall constitute a separate offense." SEC TION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect on and after January 1, 1949.
