PROJECT ON NORTH 12TH STREET Ii1 THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
rIEREAS, the Mork Projects Administration heretofore
approved the application of the City of Paducah for the paving
of ei-ht blocks on r;orth 12th Street, said work to be done at the
exclusive cost of the owners of real. estate abutting upon such
improvement, and an ordinance was adopted by the ,eneral Council
levying the taxes upon the lots or parcels of real estate for
payment of the costs assessed thereon, one-half of said tax to be
due and payable when the work of construction began and the other
one-half when the improverrnent ;vas one-half completed; and,

11IEREAS, the construction of said street by the City of
Paducah, in cooperat=ion with the .York Projects Adminiotration, beCar.
on September 24th, 1942; and,
I''JIIEREAS, the owners of most of the property abutting
upon said improvement have paid their assessments in full; and,
II.IIEREAS, shortly after the work of pavin` i1orth 12th
Street began, the City of Paducah, at the request of the '.'Jar Pro-
duction Board, suspended this work and employed all of the S'PA
workmen in the City of Paducah on a project to remove street car
rails and to sell the same to steel mills for use in the war
effort; and,
'NHEREAS, by reason of the use of all availableworkmen
on the rail removal project the paving of North 12th Street was
not completed on schedule, and the '.:pork Projects Administration hast
since ordered that all street construction projects be suspended
indefinitely as of April lst, 1943; and,
V!IfEREAS, it will be impossible to complete the North 12th
Street pavin,7 project by April lot, 1943; and,
tVHEREAS, since most of the residents on North 12th Street
have paid their assessments for said improvement, and it is through
no fault off their part that the paving work will be suspended on

April 1st, and the delay was brought about entirely by reason oftI�
desire of the Board of Commissioners to cooperate with the ',':'ar Pro-
duction Loard by giving priority to the rail removal project, :it
would be most unfair to the .residents on North 12th street if the
improvement for which they have paid in full is not completed; and,
WHEREAS, there remains on North 12th Street about four
(4) blocks to be paved;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED i;Y TIIE BOARD OF
COMI-ISSIONERS OF THE CITY OI'' PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:

That the City of Paducah request the assistance of

Senator Alben W. Barkley, Senator A. B. Chandler and Representative
:Moble Gregory in obtaining the approval of the 17ork Projects
Administration for an extension of time to complete the aforesaid
paving project on North 12th Street, and that the tlayor be, and hel

is hereby authorized to communicate with Senator Barkley, Senator
i
Chandler arif Representative ::oble Gre-.or-T concerning said project,!

explaining to them the necessity of doing the work which the City i
of Paducah has committed itself to do, and explaining further that)
it will be most unfair to the residents on North 12th Street if the
City cannot make the improvements for which said residents have
paid, and that the Mayor mail to each of them a copy of this
I

SECTIOil 2.
This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
