Pane 471 i i i RESOLUTIOAIS OF THE BOARD OF COi;!i=S1ONERS UPON 'PHb; DEA'ld OF HON. LR14EST LACKEY, FOR::ER L:AYOR OF 1 -ME CICY OF PADiiCAIi WHEREAS, our Heavenly Father, in his wisdom, has removed from the activities of this life and called to a j higher life our friend and fellow citizen, Hon. Ernest Lackey, former Payor of this city and the father of our present Mayor, Hon. Pierce E. Lackey; and, HE SEAS, it has never been the custom of the legislative body of the City of Paducah to adopt resolutions in memory of former officials who have distin uished them- selves as public servants, but it nor; seems especially Pitting thatwe should er;ress through the records of the city our a_>ereciation of I.1r. Lackey's services, to -;ether with the high esteem in which he was held by all of his acquaintances; and, i .IiFREAS, before moving the adoption of these resolutions, it would be well to call to mind the achievements which made for i, -r. Lackey a record that will long be remembered. Some of i I these achievements are as follows: - I i I;r. Lackey sponsored and it was lar.mely through his tireless efforts that there was constructed in the city i a system of street oaving by which a number of main streets were connected with the State and Federal hiLhways. He v I was instrumental in having adopted an ordinance creating and i establishing a City Planning and Zoning Commission. It was also during his administration that the City became the purchaser of the waterworks system. All of his achievements have not only benefited the Ir esent generation but will be passed on to be enjoyed by future generations. `i°nese and many other worthwhile projects which were undertaken and completed during his administration will be lasting monuments to his foresi,ht and sound business judgment. In all of the official positions to which I,'r. Lackey was called, he manifested a keen interest in doing the things that had for their object the-eneral v,elfare of all of our citizens. He was a man of unquestionable integrity and not once during his entire political career was there any suspicion or even an intimation that would in any way reflect upon his character. Fie was very industrious and energetic, using at all tunes his ener-,•y and talents in the service of the City that he so dearly loved. I i, Page, 72 p„r. Lackey was not only admired because of his fine political record. It should be remembered that his official life as outstanding as it was, cannot be taken as the real measure of his greatness. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a fine i example for his sons by whom he was so hi;;hly respected, and a true and loyal friend. I therefore move the adoption of the follov, ing resolutlons:I ". Hon. Ernest Lackey, .Chat in the death of the .l, i I former 1Jayor of the City of Paducah, the city has lost one of its most valuable and.loyal citizens, and that we, as i members of the Board of Commissioners, express throuh this record our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved members of the I family; that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family, and one to the newspaper, and that a page in the ordinance boox be set aside in L:r. Lackey's memory, and that these resolutions be inscribed thereon." Passed by the --pard of Commissioners, :,arch 11th, 1941. commissioner i I Coirunissioner. i Commissioner Commissioner ■
