HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 10, Page 227, No Resolution NumberPage 227 v A RESOLUTION APPEALING TO THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, OR THE APPROPRIATE AGENCY THEREOF ENGAGED IN THE MAKING OF IMPRUVEMENT'S FOR THE BENEFIT AND ASSISTANCE OF MUNICIPALITIES, TO APPROVE A PROJECT FOR THE FILLING IN OF S :At+TPS, MARSHES AND OTHER POORLY DRAINED LAND WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF TYPHOID FEVER, MALARIA AND OTHER DISEASES CAUSED BY REASON OF THE EXISTENCE OF SUCH NUISANCES ',MEREAS, there exists in the City of Paducah certain areas of land which are low, poorly drained and inundated much of the time by reason of the overflow of the Chio River arid its tributaries, and such condition is a menace to the public health in that epidemics of typhoid fever, malaria and other contagious diseases are prevalent; and, WHEREAS, the City of Paducah is financially unable to abate such nuisances, and must of necessity appeal to the Federal Government for assistance in order to protect the citizens of this community from infectious, contagious and pestilential diseases which result from such condition; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COML"ISSIONERS OF TIE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the United States Government, or the Agency thereof which is engaged in the making of necessary improvements for the benefit of Municipalities, be requested to approve a project for the filling in of all swamps, marshes and other low and poorly drained areas within the City of Paducah in order to prevent the spreading of Typhoid fever, malaria and other contagious diseases which are caused by such conditions as now exist in the City of Paducah. SECTION 2. That the City Manager furnish a certified copy of this resolution to the Hon. Alben W. Barkley and the Hon, A.B.Chandler, r Senators of the State of Kentucky, a copy to the Hon.Noble Gregory, Representative from this district, and a copy to Dr. Thomas Parran Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from !and after its adoption.
