HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 9, Page 461, No Ordinance NumberPage 461 AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND REGULATING THE LIC'"NSE TAXES, AND MANNER AND FORM OF GRANTING AND ISSUING SANTF ON CERTAIN OCCUPATIONS, PROFESSIONS, TRAD-S AND CALLINGS IN THF CITY OF FAUUCAH, KFNTUrKY iiND PROVIDING PFNALTIFS FOR NON-PAYMENT THFRT'OF AND FOR VIOLATION TF -FF! -,OF, AND MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO ENGAGE IN ANY SUCH LINE, OF BUSINESS, OCCUPATIONS, PROFESSION,, TRADES AND CALLINGS "WITHOUT FIRST PAYING THE LICENSE TAX AND PROCURING LICENSES AS PROVIDED HFFEIN. BE IT ORDPINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY; SECTION 1. That on and after the 1st day of January, 1930, and on the same day in each succeeding year thereafter, it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, company or corporation to engage in any business, occupation, profession, trade or calling hereinafter mentioned, in the City of Paducah, Kentucky, until such persons, firms, companies or corporations have first paid the amount of license tax to the City of Paducah and have obtained licenses as hereinafter specified and required. If any such license tax be not so paid and the license procured on or before the first day of February in each year hereafter, there shall be added to such license tax a penalty of ten (10) per centum thereof, and any and all such persons, firms, companies or corporations paying, or offering to nay such license taxes after the same have become delinquent, shall also pay said ten (10) per cent penalty thereon; provided that said penalty shall not be added to any such license tax where the persons, firm, company or corporation, so liable for same, shall not be engaged in business, occupation, profession, trade or calling in said City until after the .first day of February in the year in which said license tax shall be due and payable. Said license taxes and penalties may be recovered as other delinquent taxes. All other provisions of ordinances now in force regulating the issuing of such licenses, and the manner of keeping and displaying same and the holding and transferring of same, and limiting the occupation, business, trade, profession and calling for which licenses may be issued ^nd the use of such licenses on account thereof, shall continue and be in force as to any and all of the licenses authorized in this ordinance. SECTION 2. the Upon/violation of any of the provisions of this ordinance by any person, firm, company or corpora ion holding a license to engage in any business, occupation, trade, profession or calling as herein provided, such license may be revoked by the board of Commissioners Page 462 SECTION 3. Each person, firm, company or corporation, carrying on or conducting any business, trade, occupation, employment or profession, for which a license is reouired un,'er this 6r any other ordinance of the City of Paducah not repealed by this or any other ordinance, where a fine has not been provided for, without first having obtained 'a license to carry on and conduct such business, trade, occupation, employment or profession, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction in the Police Court, shall be fined not less than Fice ($5.00) Dollars, nor more than twenty ($20.00) Dollars; and each day that such business, trade, orcupstion,l employment or profession is carried on without such license, or after such license has been revoked, shall be considered a separate offense SECTION 4. The tusiness, occupations, professions, trades, callings and employments for which license taxes are reouired under this or'inance, together with the amount of such license tax, except as otherwise specifically set out herein end in otter license ordinances not hereby renealed,aae as follows: Fresh Meat, Peddler (each vehicle) for a year or any part thereof .................................. $ 25.00 Every Vendor of medicines or nostrums, who srsll sell same from house to house, or on the street or other highways of the city per day .......... 10.00 Peddler, each wagon or vehicle not selling meat or groceries Each peddler, vendor or deliverer of goods or merchandise not sold previous to the time of delivery, for year or any part thereof.... 25.00 No peddler shall sell his goods, wares or merchandise within 300 feet or the City Market House... Peddlers, solicitors and vendors wro go about the city on foot and solicit the sale of ,jewelry, diamonds, watches, clothing,wearing apnarel, furniture or other commodity or personal property, ^vrether orned by them or by others, per day ................................... 10.00 SECTION 5. No license herein provided for shall authorize or entitle any holder hereof to conduct any business, or to engage in any I occupation, profession, trade or calling, in any manner or at any i time, in violation of any ordinance of the City of Paducah, or of any lay., of the state of Kentucky (r of the United States. SECTION 6. All moneys derived from license taxes under the provisions of this ordinance shall be paid to the City of enducah and placed to the credit of the General Revenue Fund of said city, and shall be used in defraying the current nnO incidental expenses )f said city. Page 463 SECTION 7. All. ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, are, to the extent of such conflict only,hereby repealed, but this ordinance shall not be construed as providing for any license or the paymetit of any license fee on any business, trade, profession, or occiznation not herein specifically provided for. SECi'ION 8. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and including the first day of January, 1930.
