sons shall be exempt from the penalty provided in this ordinance, when
on the streets, thorou,hfares or public places bet:•reon the hours men-
tioned in the actual performance of their dutios. That such -:permits shall
be in writing, siKs%ed by the Commiosioner of Public Safety, and shall bel
at all times, in the possession of the parties to whom issued, and shall)
be exhibited to anv officer having authority to call for the exhibition
of such permits, and the failure to have .!nch permit or to exhibit it,
