".'HER h_S, the ';Joman's Hospital League has heretofore generously donated
to the City of Paducah„ for the construction of an isolation ward for fIe
treatment of contagious diseases, Tro Thousand Nine Hundred and Six and
90100 (""2906.90) Dollars, and One Thousand !Sine Hundred and Thirty-six and
25/100 (k1936.25) Dollars of said amount having been paid into the treasury
of the City of Paducah and arran�•ements made with the hereinafter mentioned
contractor to take care of the balance of said amount; and,
the City of Paducah has set apart the sum of ""2906.90 to aid in
the construction of said ward; and,

has heretofore had prepared by architects Lassiter w JL�r:liesoil certain
pl.ais and specifications for the construction of said yard, to be sit- _
uated on T_Torth Fourth street on a portion of the site now occupied by
Riverside Hospital, in the City of Paducah, Kentucky; and,
7MERLAS, said Board of Commissioners advertised for bids for the
construction thereof, according to said plans and specifications, to be
ogened at ton o'clock A. L. on September 1st, 1917; and.,
•,7H�RrAS, at said time and place six bids dere presented and upon
opening thereof it was ascertained that the lowest and best bidder for
the construction o- said work was W. id. Karnes, whose bid was 95315.00;
and,
.=RLA5, upon further consideration of said Board of Commissioners
and the ';Woman's Hospital League, it was deemed advisable to make certain
minor changes in the plans, which changes were made by architect C. U.
Lassiter- and the said Karnes having agreed to make such changes withoit
any profit to himself and to make same at actual cost price; now,
therefore -

Section 1. That said isolation ward for the treatment of contagious
.,aases be constructed on llortl_ +o».rth street on a, portion of the
,arty now occupied by 3iverside Hospital, in the City df Paducah,
pursuant to said plans and specifications prepared by architects
_.i3siter & Jamieson for the City of Paducah, now on file in the office
of the Commissioner of Public ';torics, which are referred to and made a
part hereof as :,,ull.y as if set fc-rth herein and marled "A" and "B" for
more specific identification.
Section 2. That upon this ordinance becoming effective a contract shall
be entered into by and between the City of Paducah and 1,7. Karnes;
the lowest and best bidder for said construction work, in the amount of
5813.80, the said City to be liable only for its one half of said amount
plus the amount paid into its treasury by the ',7oma_n's Hospital League -
and that said City of Paducah shall, by said contract, require of said
contractor, 'd7. 1.1. Karnes, good and sufficient bond in the sum of not less
r;_an 5x2325.52 for the faithful performance of said work and the payment
of all lien claims upon same, in a.ecorda.nce with the plans ar_d specific:.. -

Section 3. That said contractor shall be paid, upon estimates of the
architect in charge of and superintendiiE said work, eighty (80;0) per cent
of the value thereof during the progress of said work, and the balance
of twenty (20,0) per cent shall be paid to th a contractor after said work

Section 5. It is hereby declared that an emergency e fists on account of
the public health requiring' that this is011'tion viard be constructed at the
earliest possible date, and it is hereby further ordained that this cwdi-'
nance shall take effect immediately upon its Opssage, record and publica-
tion.
