City Engineer, Additional Duties.
inrfneerte of q.—All contracts for work or material ordered by the
city shall, before the claims of the contractors are presented
to the common council, have the certificate of the city engi-
neer, that the work was done, or that materials furnished, ac -
cording to contract. He shall not certify for any contractor',
as to any work or undertaking if such contractor has fail-
ed in any respect, to comply with every condition of said con-
tract; nor shall he certify to the amount of any contractor in
advance of his work or undertaking.
City Engineer, Additional Duties.
An Ordinance to Amend Ordinance Entitled "Number
to of the Revised Ordinances" --Relating to the Office of city
Engineer, Fixing the Compensation and Providing Additional
duties of Said Office. ✓
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Members of the Coin
mon Council of the City of Paducah.
Section i. That Section 2, of Ordinance No. Yo of the
Revised Ordinances, relating to the office of City Engineer
be and the same is hereby repealed and that there shall be
substituted the following in lieu thereof towit: Said Engi-
neer shall be a person skilled in the art of civil engineering
and an actual resident and qualified voter of the City.
Sec. 2. Omitted—Repealed.
Sec. x That in addition to the duties now fixed by or-
dinance, it shall be the duty of the City Engineer to keep a
record in a book to be furnished and provided by the City
for the purpose, or in such other manner as the City may re-'
quire. Such record shall be of and concerning all work
which he may perform as City Engineer and shall at all
times during his regular office hours, be open to inspection
of the general public, and he shall be required to designate
and as near .as practicable, consistent with the duties of his
office keep regular office hours.

City Engineer, Additional Duties.
Sec. 4. He shall at no time neglect any .work which
may be required of hini by the City; and all times he shall
be subject to the demands of the Council; he shall -make -
any and all inspections and surveys -relative to any City
work, that may pertain to or be connected with his office,
without extra compensation or charge thereof.
Sec. 5. In the event of the absences from the City or
illness of the Engineer, the Mayor shall if necessary appoint
some competent person who shall perform the same duties
during his absence or illvess, to be paid out of the City
Treasury and deducted from the salary of the Engineer.
Sec. 6. That he shali have no right or power to appoint
or employ an assistant tngineer unless he shall first secure
the consent of the Council, or of the Committee in charge
of any work, for which such assi3tant is to be appointed.
Sec. 7. He shall be required, whenever the occasion or
work shall make it necessary to furnish olie helper such as 40
rod carrier and :o pay the same, but whenever it shall be-
come necessary that he have more than one person to assist
j him as a helper, then it shall be the duty of che City to pay
for such additional help. The Atayor or Committee to decide
if such extra help is ne; c. nary and he shall not be chargeable
thereof. '
Sec. 8, He shall he required to furnish teams or convey-
ance necessary for the purpose of conveying himself and
necessary instruments to and from any sectio• or .)s: t of the
' City where ever he may be engaged at work as such otliicer. -
Sec. 9. All ordinances and parts of ordinance in conflict �
with this ordinance or any of the sections herein, are here-
by repealed. '
Sec. to. This ordinance shall take .effect from and after
its passage and approval.

"An Ordinance Amending No. 895, Entitled an Ordi-
nance to Amend No. 10; of the Revised Ordinance of

City of Paducah Relating
to the

and Amending Ordinance No. to, of the Said Revised Ordi-
nances, Fixing the Compensation, Defining Additional Duties .
of the Office, Changing the Bond, and Disposing of the Re-
ceipts for Private Work, Executed by the City Engineer.
Be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of
Paducah, • Ky.
Section i. That Section 2, of the above titled ordinance
be, and the same is hereby repealed.
Sec. 2.Omitted—i:epcaled.
Sec. 3. That the City Engineer shall not be permitted
to do work butside of the City, except upon permission of
the Common Council.
Sec. 4. That all pe: quisites accruing to the office of
City Engineer, by reason of work performed for private
parries or citizens, in the City, shall be collected by the
City Engineer, at the rates now prescribed by ordinance
4 i and the amounts shall be paid to the city treasury, whose
receipts thereof shall be filed by the said Engineer, with the
City Clerk. The amounts thus collected shall be for the use
and benefit of the City.
Sec. 5. Omittee—Fepealed.
Sec. 6. That the City Engineer shall serve private par-
ties desiring surveys made promptly, but public or City
work shall have precedence over private work.
Sec. 7. That all ordinances or parts thereof in conflict'
-with the provisions of this ordinance, are hereby repealed to
the extent of such conflicting and this ordinance shall take
effect from and after its passage and approval.
