In addition to previous re- quirements, there shall be in such houses or buildings iron ladders of suitable strength at the ends of all corridors and other places where it may be impossible to put a reg- ular fire escape. There shall also be coils of rope from a reasonable number of rooms, to be securely fastened on the 418140 of the windows, made so that they may he easily thrown front the windows when necessity may require, Sec, if. An Ordinance Defining the Duties, in Part, of tate Office of the Health Officer of the City," Whereas:—The Statutes empower the Common Council by ordinance, to create a Board,of Health for the City and vest it with powers and duties, and thereby also creating the office of Health Officer, and Whereas: said Health Officer's duties are only partially defined by existing ordi- vances, and whereas: the Statutes make the Hbalth Officers •.., I ail 426 REVISED ORDINANCES OF PADUCAH. ,Ndditional Duties of Health Officer. t an officer of the city to be paid as other city officers are paid. Be it ordained by .the Common Council of the City of i Paducah, Ky. Duties + Section 1. That it shall be the duty of the Health Offi- cer to co-operate with the Sanitary and sewer committee of the Common Council, in all questions of sanitation'. Vtstt Sec. 2. That the said officer shall visit and diagnose all dintsdus sseaases the cases of contagion, diseases, when given notice of its existence by a practicirg physician or the Mayor of the city, provided, however, that' such case• or cases. may be located within the prescribed limits of the City, and he shall moots posted • plate or cause to be placed the customary notice of the ex- istence of contagion, as may be diagnosed by him, in a con- spicuous locality, in the front of such residence or premises, in order that the public may be warned against the disease. He shall, by himself or through others, properly disinfect the place of existence of contagious disease, and in case of the existence of small-pcx, yellow fever, etc, etc, he shall co-operate with the Mayor and City Physician, and give such diseases, the care and disposal now prescribed under existing ordinances. Under Sec. 3, That the Health Officer, in addition to being e`rs the executive of the local Board of Health, shall be like all '. other officers of the municipality under the jurisdiction of the Mayor of the City, iu all matters pertaining to health, and subject to his command, provided however, that the Mayor's orders may not conflict with the said officer's duties to the Board of Health, or said Board's command. Written Sec. 4. That a written order with regard to the care order of the 'health of the City, or concerning the duties reason- ably required of the office of Health Officer, signed by the Mayor and countersigned in approval by the President of. the loco Board of Health, shall be obeyed by said officgr. Sec. g, That all ordinances or parts thereof in conflict with the prdvisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to ' REVISED ORDINANCES OF PADUCAH. 427 Additional Duties of Health Officer. The Office city physcian shall be elected by the common council in cmated the month of December in, each year, for the term of one year. He shall hold his office for the term of one year, and until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified. 2.—It shall be his duty to visit and prescribe for all Uutlea fixed indigent sick who come under his notice, and he shall promptly obey all orders from the mayor in relation to the same. He shall see that they are properly nursed and report to the mayor any negligence or want of care on the part of those having charge of them.
