and shall give his attent:on and advise as to the gengral and
sanitary condition of the whole City, and upon the request
of the Mayor or Council, shall meet them when in session
and give them such special information as to Sanitary con
dition of diseases that may be -prevalent in the City. And,
for his services as such health officer, he shall be allowed
a salary at the rate of $too per annum.
Sec. g. That in all cases when said Board shall deem it Ho io raven -
necessary to employ sanitary inspectors or other persons to
aid in sanitary work or purposes the Board shall report to
the Council their recommendations in the premises for the
ratification of the Council where expense or expenditure of
money is to be incurred. .(The Board of Health may em-
ploy such persons as they shall deem proper and right, and
report to the Council for its ratification or rejection, that
such reports be made before the employment of such help.
And the Council in all cases reserves the right to fix the
compensation of all employed.)
And this ordinance shall .take effect from its passage and
approval.

An Ordinance Amending Ordinance No. 866, Entitled'
an ordinance Providing for the Election of a Board of Health
for Oe City of Paducah and Regulating same, and Prescrib-
ing it powers and duties; With Salaries Fixed Under the
Amendment.
Be it ordained by the common council of the City of Pit-
ducah.
Section 1.'• That ordinance No. B66 entitled an ordinance
providing for the election of a board of health for the Clty of

guard of Health—Amendment.
Paducah and regulating same, and prescribing its powers,
and duties be and the same is hereby ameneeLt by striking
out of section 2, thereof the words, "to employ any person
or persons to perform any sanitary duty and."—Causing said
section to read amended as follows to -wit:
The aforesaid board of health shall organize within ten
days'after its election, or as soon thereafter as convenient
and shall have the sante power within the city' of Paducah,
as local boards for counties are invested with under chapter
63 of the Kentucky Statutes.
it is further ordained that said board of health shall
have or exercise the power to appoint a competent physic:an,
who shall be the Health Officer of the City, and shall fiold
his office for two year; and until his successor shall be duly
appointed and qualified, and said board of health shall have
power to -fill any vacanry that may occur in the office of
Health Officer, of the city.
Sec. 2. That section g, of said ordinance No. 866 be'
and the sante is hereby amended by striking oqt of said sec-
tion the following to -wit: The.board of health may employ
such persons as they shall deem proper and right, and re-
port to the council for its ratification or rejection; that such
reports shall be made before the employment of such help,
and the council in all cases reserves the right to fix the com-
pensation of all employed"—addirg in lieu thereof the' fol-
lowing to -wit: The Common Council shall on petition of the
board or health, or wherever it may deem same advisable,
elect one or more persons as sanitary officers, who shalt
hold their offices at the p;casure of said common council. Such
officers shall be paid a salary, monthly out pf the city treas-
ury, of $4o dollars per month for their services.
It shall -be the dntyof said sanitary officers to patrol the
city during the daytime and look after its sanitary condition;
they shall be clothed with police authority by the mayor, and
shall' see that the sanitary laws and, ordinances of the city
are enforced, together with such regulations as may be
adop.cd by the board of health; they shall be under the

direction, orders and control of the mayor, and Sewerage
and Sanitary Committee of the Common Council, and shall
report to the mayor once each day.
Sec. 3. That all ordinances and parts thereof in con-
flict with the provisions of this ordinance,—to the extent
of such conflicting,—are hereby repealed and this ordinance
shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
