Salary of Engineer at Light Plant, per month, $7o. Salary of. Fireman at Light Plant, per month, $45. Salary of Lamp Trimmers at Light Plant, per month $50. Sec. 3. That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with any of the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such confliction and this or- dinance shall take effect from and after its passage and ap- proval. An Ordinance for the Election of a Board of Health for the City of Paducah and Regulating the Same and Prescrib- ing its Powers and Duties. Be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of ' Paducah. Section t. . That it shall be the duty of the Common hoard W 1N Council of Paducah to elect a board of health for said city elected to consist of six persons, not members of such Council who shall be elected as follows. Two persons for a term of *Terni* fized one year, two persons fur a term of two years, and two per- sons for a term of three years and at least three of whom shall be competent physicians. And the Mayor of said City shall be ex officio a member of such board of health, that the first election of said board of health shall take place by the Council at its first regu'ar meeting in the month of Decem- ber 1896 and upon the expiration A the term of office of any member of such board of health elected tinder this sec- tion hissuccessor shall I:e elected for a term of three years, 404 REVISED ORDINANCES OF PADUCAH. -{ Board of 'Health. and so on continuously provided always, that in case of a vacancy in the office of any member of the board, such vac- ancy shall be declared and filled by the Common Council at ssworn t° any regular meeting of the Council. That said members of the board of health before acting shall be sworn to well and truly discharge the duties of their office. Powers of Sec. 2. The aforesaid board of health shall organize Board within ten days after ita election, or as soon thereafter as convenient and shall have the same power within the City of Paducah as local board for counties are invested with, under Chapter 63 of the Kentucky Statutes. It is further ordained that said board of health shall have or exercise the power to employ any person or persons. to perform any sanitary duty and to appoint a competent Phy- sician, who shall be the health officer of the City, and shall ' officer hold his office for two years and until his successor shall be duly appointed and qualified and said 'board of health shall have power to fill any vacancy that -may occur in the office of "Health Officer' of the City. Rem+lnr Sec. 3. That said board of Health together with said rop+rt health officer shall report to the'Mayor and Common Council required of Paducah at some regular meeting of the Council every three months and oftener upon the written request of the Mayor and in such reports said Board and its Physician shall state the general sanitary condition of the City and what is needed' to put the City i- a healthful condition, and whetter it will require the employment of Sanitary inspectors or others, how many and for how long and the probable costs, and thereupon it shall be the duty of the Council to respect-. fully consider said reports or suggestions of the Board of Health. And make all necessary provision to promote the good sanitary condition of the City, according to their beat judgment and discretion and make all orders and resolu- tios to carry out the aim and purposes of this ordinance. Board of Health,—Amendment. and shall give his attent:ou and advise as to the general and ' sanitary condition of the whole City, and upon the request of the Mayor or Council, shall meet them when in session and give them such special information as to Sanitary con-' dition of diseases that may be -prevalent in the City. And for his services as such health officer, he shall be allowed a salary at the rate of $too per annum. Sec. 5. That in all cases when said Board shall deeps it How e:pen s necessary to employ sanitary inspectors or other persons to &Toro tw bald aid in sanitary work or purposes the Board shall report to the Council their recommendations in the premises for the ratification of the Council where expense or expenditure of money is to be incurred. (The Board of Health may em- ploy such persons as they shall deem proper and right, and report to the Council for its ratification or rejection, that such reports be made before the employment of such help.
