An Ordinance Relating to Fradulent Weights and
Measures and Providing Penalties for the Same.
Be it ordained by the members of the Common Council
of the City of Paducah,
Section i. It shall be unlawful for any person or per-

sons, who may weigh or cause to be weighed, any articles

of merchandise or farm porducts of any kind, such as corn,
hay, oats, etc, upon the City scales of the City of Paducah
to fradulently increase the weight of such merchandise or
farm products before weighing the same, by wetting or
other means; or to offer to be weighed any such merchandise
or products upon the City scales, knowing the weight
thereof to have been fradulently increased in any manner,
whatever.
Sec. 2. It shall be the duty of the City Weigher to re-

Sec. 3. Any person who shall be found guilty of violat-
ing Sec. i of this ordinance shall be fined not less than $3.-
- oo nor more than $io.00 for each and every offense.
Sec. q. This ordinance, shall take effect from and after
its passage and approval.

Public Works.

Section t. That there be and there is hereby created
and established in the city of Paducah, Ky., a Board of
Public Works which establishment is in pursuance to, un-
der and by virtue of Section 3125 of the Kentucky stat-
utes, which is a part of the charter of cities of the second

class. Said board shall consist of three (3). members, to .be
members
appointed by the mayor, for a term of two (2) years, sub-
ject to the approval of the board of aldermen, and subject
to removal from office by the mayor upon the approval of
the board of aldermen. The duties of the said board shall

be the same as prescribed in the charter as the duties of the '

superintendant of public work, and such other duties asmay
from time to time be imposed on said board by ordinance.
Salary
Sec. 2. That the membdrs of said board of public
works of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, appointed pursuant
to this ordinance, shall receive .as compensation for their
'
services the sum of one hundred ($too) dollars per annum,
payable in monthly installments as other salaries are paid.
Sec. 3. They shall each give bond in the sum of one

thousand dollars ($t,oco) for the faithful performance of
their respective duties.
Sec. 4. This ordinance shall take effect from and after '
January 19o4.

and fixing the number, salaries and compensation of the
officers and employes therein and their Duties and prescrib-
ing the num her of carts and wagons to be employed by the

Be it ordained by the General Council of the City of
Paducah, Kentucky.

and managing of all Bridges, wharves, culverts, receiving
basins, drains and water courses within said city; the laying
of all sewer pipes through any street or alley and the issuing
of. permits for the con-necting with any gas or wates pipes;
the laying down and repairing of all sidewalks, crosswalks, .
curbing and_ guttering, and the constructing of all vaults un-
der any portion of the streets, and also to supervise and con-
trol all liandcarts and wagons working for the city. Said
Street Inspector or Foreman shall report his acts and doings
in writing. to the said board of Public Works -at the end of
each and every week, and oftener if so required by said
hoard.
Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of said clerk or bookkeeper' Acooant.a
to keep an accurate account of all work done in the Board WbO kuDt
of Public Works department and showing the amount ex-
pended for original improvements ,and constructions, and
the amount for repairs, superintendence and other expendi-
tures, exhibiting the source of expenditure; also, to show
with accuracy the receipts and expenditures in such a man-
ner as to enable the same to be understood and investigated,
and also to preserve on file in the office of the Board of Pub
lie Works, duplicate vouchers for all expenditures;' which

Section t. That the Board of Public Works are hereby

wagons, each of whom shall at all times be under their.con-
trol, supervision and management, and subject to removal
at any time by said Board of Public Works.

reconstruction of all sidewalks, roadways, streets, alleys
and public grounds, and the laying of all water and gas

Sec. 4. That the compensation of said Street Inspector

Sec. g. Said street Inspector or Foreman shall execute
bond in the sum of 1,00 dollars to the City of Paducah, Ken-
tucky, for the faithful performance of his duties.

Sec. 6. The number of hands, excepting a Street Inspec

work contracted for and paid by other parties, but done

Sec. y. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in con-
flict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Sec. 8. This ordinance shall lake effect from and after
its passage, approval and publication as required by law.
