License Ordinance -Merchant..
An ordinance prescribing a license for carrying on cer-
tain business in the City of Paducah.
Be it ordained that the General 'Council of the City of
Paducah, Ky.:
To whom Section t. That all persons who shall under cover of bona

fide merchants, commence, or have commenced, a business
to be conducted temporarily, and not otherwise in the City of
Paducah, for the purpose of disposing of, or having disposed
of, any goods, wares or merchandise, either at auction or
otherwise, except as hereinafter especially provided for, and
who commenced or have commenced, their business after the
rgth day of September of any year, and by reason thereof
would avoid and evade the payment of taxes on their stock of
License Foods for such year, shall be required to pay into the treasury
,of the City of Paducah, for contingent fund purposes, a li-
cense of five hundred dollars ($soo) for each year, or fraction
of a year to carry on such business.
nnsinoss Sec. 2. It shall be unlawful for any p-rson, firm or cor-
unwh n1wml poration, to conduct the business mentioned in the first sec-
tion of this ordinance, without first paying the license fee
therein required and obtain a licence therefor.
spurn Sec. 3. Every person, firm or corporations upon apply-
requie dt ing for the license herein prescribed, shall be required to de-
pose upon oath his name and residence, and the ownership of
the goods, wares and merchandise he proposes to dispose
of, together with the name and residence of person, or per-
sons, who may own or be in any other manner interested in
said goods, wares or merchandise, or in whose behalf it is
proposed to dispose of the same, whether the applicant for
license acts in his behalf , or as agent for the same, and, the said
statement shall be filed in the office of the city clerk, and if

manner hold forth the proposed disposition of said goods,
wares or merchandise, as an insurance, bankrupt, assignee,
or closing out sale, or a sale of any goods, wares or mer.

ehandise damaged by smoke, fire or otherwise, or shall make
any advertisement, representation or statement, he shall be
required to fide his affidavit, and the' affidavit of at least two
other persons, showing in same the detailed statement of all"
facts regarding the same, and it shall be the duty of the
officer issuing the said license to such applicant to examine
its concerts and purposes with regard to the disposition of

representation, or statement concerning his proposed disposi-
tion of the same. Any false statement made by an applicant
for license, under this section shall be deemed false swearing,
and any person so offending shall be punished ,accordingly.
Sec. 4. That no person, firm or corporation commencing or

Sec. 6. Any person, firm or corporation violating any

twenty-five dollars ($25) nor more than one hundred dollars
($too) for each offense, and each day said business is carried
on without the prepayment of the license shall constitute a

Sec. 7. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed, and this ordinance shall take
effect from and after its passage, approval and publication.
