LICENSE ORDINANCES.
Y n ordinance fixing and regulating license fees on vari-
ous lines of business, avocations and occupations in the city
of Paducah.
Be it ordained by the General Council cf the city of Pa-
ducah, Kentucky:

SeLtion. 1. That after the passage of 'his ordinance no
person or corporation, shah be engaged in any trade or pro-
fession hereinafter mentioned, until he, she, they or it, shall
have obtained a license therefor as hereinafter provided.

Sec. 2. Any person who shall violate any of rhe provi°-
ion< of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished in the
police court by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50.00),
nor less than ten dolla s ($lo.00), and each day said ordi-
nance is violated shall he deemed a separate offense, unless
otl:cnrise hereinafter provided for.

Sec. 4. Every person having a license under the provii- License must .

the license inspector or any police officer, and shall place

as follows, to -wit: On a one-horse wagon a yellow tag, with
number of his wagon; on a two -horse vagof a blue tag,
with the number of his wagon, and on a four -horse wagon a
white tag, with the number of his wagon.

Peddlers of Peddlers. Peddlers shall be classified and licensed as
goods follows: Every person, company or corporation that shall
peddle goods, wares or merchandise, using a wagon drawn
by two or more horses, shall pay a license fee of fifty dol-
lars ($50.00) per annum, and if they use a wagon drawn by
one horse shall pay a license fee of forty dollars ($40.00) per
annum, and if on foot, shall pay a license fee of twenty-
five dollars ($25.00) per annum, or a fee of three dollars
($3.00) per day for any one of said classes.
Peddlers of Peddlers of Meat, Vegetables and Jewelry. Peddlers

shall pay a license fee of twelve dollars ($12.00) per annum;

Circuses Circuses. For each circus charging an admission fee of
fifty cents (Soc) one hundred dollars ($too.00) for .every

($50.00) for every twenty-four_ hours, and for each side-
show accompanying the same five dollars ($5.00) for every

Other Concerts, Theater•: and Shows. For vocal ant instru-

mental concerts, operas, theatres, exhibitions, lectures, bell
ringing, negro minstras, sleight of hand performances, and
other shows and exhibitions, except such as are given for
charitable purposes or 1 enevolent or literary societies, not

($20.00) for each day in the discretion of the mayor. But 1
small shows may exhibit upon payment of not less than
three dollars ($3.00) per day upon the written direction of -

shows shall be permitted therein, and any indecent or im-

ous, vinous or malt liquors are sold by retail, one hundred

more good securities, to be approved by the General Coun-
cil, conditioned that he will keep a quiet and orderly house,

nies, and telephone companies, shall pay the treasurer of

alleys and public places of the City of Paducah, the sum of
one dollar ($t.00) per a.:num for each pole used by them in
the streets, alleys, and I.ublic places in the city. The princi-
pal officer locate! in Paducah of each of said companies,
j shall, on the first day of January in each year, file with the
city treasurer a statemcn; in writing, under oath, specifying

the number of poles in use by his company in the streets,

the same time pay to the said city treasurer of Paducah one
dollar ($i.00) for each pole so shown. The principal officer of
any telegraph compan% or telephone company, located in
the city of Paducah, violating this sub -section, shall, upon
conviction be fined not less than twenty dollars ($20.00), nor
more thin fifty dollars i$5o.00) for each rffense, and every
day's refusal or neglect to pay the amount aforesaid in each

Insurance
Insurance Companies. Each insurance company, befor.:

doing business in the C:y of Paducah, shall designate some
person as its agent. Stch agent shall procure from the
council clerk a paper in blank, upon which shall be noted
the various lines of insurance that the said company ex-
pects to transact in said city, which blank form said clerk
is hereby required to furnish, and after being signed shall be
presented to the treasurer, and said insurance company
shall pay to said treasurer for the first line, a license tax of
fifty dollars ($50.00) per annum, and for each additional
line the sum of ten dollars ($to.00) per annum. The various
lines upon which a conn;: ny shall be liable for tax, are life,
accident and health, fisc, liability, plate glass, credit indem-
nity, burglary, steam boiler, tornado, and fidelity and surety.
Every company, insurance agency and association, wh--ther
guaranteeing drawn contracts, or having other companies to
guarantee same, shall be liable for the license tax. Provided,
this ordinance shall no; apply to fraternity orders, societies,
or associations, if they operate upon the lodge plan having
a regular assembly moot.
Contractors

Bow saloon Sec. to. Any person desiring to keep a coffee house, sa-

vinous or malt liquors are sold by retail, shall make appli-
cation therefor, in writing to the General Council, giving
the number of the house, and street on which same is located,
in which said business is to be carried on, with the receipt
of the city treasurer for the amount required for such license
as herein fixed, and also the proper receipt of the proper offi-
cer for county and state, or other license than city license,
where such license is required, and the names of two (s)
good sureties, residents of McCracken county, and the own-
ers of real estate therein, as bondsmen. If said council shall
approve and accept said sureties, and grant said license, the
clerk of the council sha'i thereupon issue said license to
said applicant, upon his entering into a bond with said sure-
ties to said city, accordi0g to law, in the penalty of one thou-
sand dollars ($1,000.00) conditioned, that he will keep a qui-
et and orderly house, and not permit gaming or riotous or
disorderly conduct therein, and shall not keep open his bar,
nor sell, nor offer for sale, any spirituous, vinous or malt liq-
ours on Sunday, and ot'.erwise comply with all the ordi-
nances of the City of Paducah in relation to coffee houses.

licenses spirituous, vinous or rtsnit liquors in quantities not less than

officer for the amount of said license, wherein such is re-
quired; thereupon, the council, in its discretion, may grant
such license upon the applicant executing bond, with two
good sureties, to be approved by the council, in the sum of
five hundred 'dollars tsSoo.00); conditioned that no liquors
sold by him shall be drank in the house, or on the premises,
or on the premises adjacent thereto, and such license shall
thereupon be issued to such. applicant by the clerk of the
council.
Sec. 12. All bonds required by this ordinance, shall be -Houde
executed to the City of Paducah.
Sec. 13. All revenues derived from licenses under the Y*venue

provisions of this ordinance, shall be paid into the city
treasury, and placed to the creditof the general revenue
funds of the city, according to the respective heads, and in
the same proportion as the advalorem tax.
Sec. 14. All ordinances, and parts of ordinances, in
conflict herewith, are hereby repealed, and this ordinance
shall take effect from at d after the first day of January, 1904.
