140 REVISED ORDINANCES OF PADUCAH.

Be it ordained by the council of th? city of Paducah.
1. That an ordinance, entitled "An ordinance subscrib-
ing one hundred thousand dollars to the capital stock of the
r Chicago, St. Louis and the Pa'ucah RAlway company," ap•
proved April 26, 1887, he amended by striking out the figure
"2" in the fourth section of said ordinance, where the same
occurs, and Inserting in lieu.thereof th,, figure "14" so as to
make the election provided for in said ordinance take place
on the 14th day of May, 1847. instead of the 2nd clay of
May, as provided in the originil,ordinance.
2. This ordinance �o take effect and be in force from its
passage and publicatirn.

An ordinance for the town of Paducah to subscribe for
stock in the New Orleans & Ohio River Railroad company
Whereas, a majority of the legal -voters of the town of '
Paducah did, on the 29th day of June, authorize the coun-
cilmen and board of trustees of said town to subscribe for
stock in the Mobile & Ohio railroad not exceeding $too.
000.00 in -accordance with the provisions of the act of the
legislature of Kentucky passed and apprcved January 7, .
T9.52, and
Whereas, it does now apepar that said Mobile & Ohir
Railroad company cannot by advice r f counsel legally ac-
cept such subscription in manner and form prescribed, ex.
cept by a unanimous vote of all the stockholders, now num,'
be: ing many thousands, which is impossiL•1e to .obtain, and,
Whereas, 'the 'said Mobile & Ohio Railroad company are
stili desirous at the easiest possible period of time to con-

nect their road with the Ohio riverat the town of Paducah
by building toward said town a branch road' thirty miles
long as authorized by this charter, and simultaneously with

the construction of the'r main trunk road to the Kentucky
line, and to effect this object the said Mobile & Ohio Railroad
eompany have entered into a contract under the date of No.
vcmber 2nd, 1852, to build said branch road, and, as agent.
to extend the same to the town of Paducah, and to com•
mence the work on all parts of the said branch and exten.
sion thereof whenever within ten month3 from and after
the 2nd day of November last past,the people of the town of
Paducah and of the counties through which said road may
pass, and others shall raise a bona fide subscription payable
on call of $500.000.00, for the completion tnd extension of
said branch road to the town of Paducah, thus forming the
entire connecting line and terminus of said Mobile & Ohio
railroad ar Paducah, therefore,
Be it enacted'and ordained by the chairman and board of
trustees of the town of. Paducah: That stork to an amount
not exceeding $200,000 shall be subscribed for in the name

for the town of Paducah, in the New Orleans & Ohio
R:.ilroad company, or so much as necessary thereof, to aid
in the • consrruction 'of said branch extension road to the
town of Paducah, and said stock so subscribed for shall be
paid by bonds payable thirty years after date in the city of

six per cent per annum; payable half yearly in New York or

An ordinance authorizing the funding of a portion of
the bonds issued by the city of Padurah, KY, on account
1 of the New Orleans & Ohio Railroad company,
Be it ordained by the mayor and the common council of •=

1. That in irder to fund a

by the city of Paducah on account of the Drew Orleans and

Ohio Railroad compary, and shall be delivered to said com-
pany in conformity with the contract before referred to, be
tween James Campbell of Paducah and JoUn Childe, agent
of the Mobile & Ohio Railrosa company, and dated at Nash-
ville, Tennessee, November 2, 1852, which contract, having
been approved by the chairman and board of trustees and
published in a paper of the town, is hereby submitted for

acceptance and ratification by the voters of the rown.
And it is further enacted and ordained that before any
of said bonds shall issue, or any subscription be made under
this ordinance, this ordinance with the pieamUle setting
forth the terms of the subscription of stock shall be4ubmit-

ted to a vote of the qualified 'voters of the town of Paducah
qualified to vote for m embers of general assembly of Ken-
tucky at Ube courthouse in the town of Paducah on Wednes-
day,the 23rd day of Ma arch, 1855, and if on such submission
'
to the voters of said town a majority shall be cast for it.

said subscription on the terms as set forth in. this ordi-
nance and preamble, and it is ordered that this ordinance
shall be published twenty days before said 23rd • day of,
