8. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its
passage.

Gas Works.
An ordinance granting to I. Eichel and his associates
the right to erect gas worl,s and lay mains and pipes in
and tinder the streets and alleys of the city'of Paducah, Ky.
Be it ordained by the mayor and council of the city of
Paducah, Ky.:
z. That I. Eichel and his associates are hereby granted
the right to erect, maintain and operate gas works in the
city of Paducah and the right to lay such mains and pipes
in and under the streets and alleys of said city as shall bi
n.-resFary to convey the manufactured gas to all parts of
the city for the benefit of consumers.
2. It is, however, provided that the pipes or mains shall
be laid in the usual and customary depth under the streets
and in such way and manner as not to interfere with the
pipes now laid of the waterworks or other pipes now laid in
sa'd streets or with any sewers constr1irted by the city of
Paducah.
3. In excavating trenches for mains and pipes of said
I. Eichel and his associates, said I. Eichel and his asso-
ciates shall use such sides of the streets and alleys as the
street committee of the council Of -the city of Paducah shall
designate, and shall so excavate said trenches as not to in-
terfere with or impede travel or the business of the public
unnecessarily. The pipes and mains are to be laid as nearly
as possible as the trenches are dug or excavated and the

trenches shall be filled up as fast as &he pipes or mains qe
laid, with the dirt taken therefrom, and the metal or gravel
'replaced and maintained so as to conform to the surface of
ti.e street as it was before the excavation was made. And
0 I. Eichel and his assoiates shall keep danger signals while
laying their mains or pipes at all points necessary to warn
the public and prevent ac:idey.t. The excavation and laying
of mains and pipes by I. Eichel and his associates shall be
done between the first of May and the first of November
in each year.
4. It is further provided that I. Eichel and his asso-
ciates shall begin the erection of their works within six
months from the passage of this ordinance and prosecute
the same in good faith and shall complete the same within
eighteen months from the passage of this ordinance, and lay
at least ten miles of mains or pipes to embrace the most
populous parts of the city and shhll thereafrer lay one mile
of pipes each year for the period of ten years, if so direct-
ed by the city council of Paducah.
5. It is further provided that I. Fichel and his asso-
ciates shall protect and save harmless the city of Paducah
from all suits for damages that may be brought by any
person claiming damages for injuries resulting from negli-
gence of I. Eichel and his associates in the use of the fran-
ch,ce granted to them and indemnify said city from all loss
resulting therefrom.
I' 6. Said I. Eichel and his associate:, shall pay all costs
that may accrue or be incurred in printing this ordinance
and enrolling the same.
y, in consideration of the foregoing franchise and right
of way herein granted, said 1. Eichel and his associates here-
by agree that they will furnish good coal gas to all private
consumers of not less than sixteen candle power in the city
of Paducah at not exceeding $2 per thousand feet and to

R. That to the event said I. Eichel and his associates
-shall fail to keep and perform the stipulations contained in
thie ordinance in good faith, then the right of way and fran-
chise hereby granted shall determine and cease.
g. It is further provided that in the event I. Eichel and
his associates shall obtain• a charter from the legislature of
the state of Kentucky, authorizing or empowering them or
their assigns as a corporat_on to erect. build and 'maintain
gas works in the city -of Paducah, Ky., and manufacture gas,
then the franchise and right of way herein granted shall
inure to the benefit of said corporation or their assigns,
sul•ject to the provisions of this ordinance.

passage and publication.

Ile it ordained by the council of the city of Paducah:
T. That the gas mains be extended by the Paducah Gas
Light Company on Broadway street, from Enders avenue to
the outer limits of the city, with the usual alit, necessary
number of lamp posts on Vile street in all respects in ac-

extension the same proportion of lamp posts, according to
distance, as are now on the street between the railroad cross-
ing ar.d the river; which extension of gas is to be under

the present gas contract with the city, the latter to pay
the same rates for lighting the new lamp posts as is paid
under the present contract, and this additional contraci is
to expire at the same time the present contract expires.
The present contract is to apply to this additional exten-
sion in all respects. This ordinance to take effect as soon
as the gas company flies its written acceptance of same
with the council.

Gravel Roads.
An ordinance for the mayor and common council of the
city of Paducah, on conditions, to subscribe one thousand.
dollars a mile t; the capital stock of the Paducah and North
Mallard and Paducah and Benton, and Paducah and Love-
laceville Gravel Road company, with their branches as here-
in named; when the Mayfield Gravel Road company get a
charter to build a gravel road it/shall receive the tame aid
from this ordinance as other roads mentioned.
Be is ordained by the mayor and common council of the
city of Paducah, Ky.:
t, That the mayor of the city of Paducah be, and is
hereby authorized to subscribe one tbusand dollars a mile
as hereinafter prescribed to each of the following gravel
road companies, and their branches as named in this ordi-
nance. air within the limits of the county of McCracken;
