HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Book 24, Page 64, August 11, 1959No 64 - Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah August 11, 1959 At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 7:30 P.M. on August 11, 1959, Mayor Jacobs presided and upon call of the Roll the followring answered to their names: i Commissioners Fairhurst, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). Mayor Jacobs offered motion that the reading of the Minutes for July I' 2$, 1959 be waived and that the fiii.nutes of said meeting as prepared by the City Clerk be approved as written. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Fairhurst, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). 'later main •� Commissioner Fairhurst offered the following motion: It appears form a Sunset & Minerva Place, letter dated August 8, 1959, filed by the Board of Commissioners of Paducah 'later 'dorks that they have determined it would be to the best interest of the water distri- ;later Main Harrison 2: Stanley M. McMurtrie bution system to install an S inch cast iron water main along Sunset Avenue from Cardinal Lane to Minerva Place a distance of approximately 322 feet to the intersectio of Sunset Avenue and Minerva Place and South on Minerva Place 75 feet, instead of a 6 inch main as approved in a petition adopted by the Board of City Commissioners on July 13, 1959. I therefore, move that the letter of the Commissioners of ':later Vlorks be received and filed and that the Paducah 'later harks, through its Board of Commissio ers, be authorized to install an S inch cast iron water main, instead of a six inch wa main, described and located as follows: Beginning at a point at the intersection of Cardinal Lane and Sunset Avenue, alon Sunset Avenue in a westwardly direction approximately 322 feet to a point in the intersection of Sunset and Minerva Place; thence along Minerva Place in a south- erly direction approximately 75 feet to the present city limits. I further move that the adoption of this resolution be conisdered as an agreement on the part of the City of Paducah to pay the main rental, as provided for i the franchise, on the 8 inch water main referred to in the letter of the Commissioners of :later Works. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Fairhurst, Fendle Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Fairhurst offered the followring motion: Stanley M. is owner of property located on Harrison Street between 23rd and 24th Street, and said owner desires that an extension of the existing water main be made so as to provide water service to the property above referred to. It appears from the endorsement by the Board of Commissioners of 'later 'forks that the applicant has complied with all rules and regulations of the said Paduc, 'later Storks as approved by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah. I•IcMurtrie be accepted and approved and that the Board of 6ommissioners of the Paducah 'later Voris be authorized to execute the agreement for the laying of said extensions and that the Board of Commissioners of Paducah 'dater :'forks be authorized to lay a six inch main along Harrison Street beginni at existing main on 24th and Harrison Street and extend in an eastwardly direction to the west side of 23rd Street a distance of approximately 370 feet. I_ further move that the adoption of this resolution and the granting of request contained in said application be considered as an agreement on the part of the City of Paducah to pay the fire hydrant and water main rental, as provided in the fran chise, on the pipe line referred to in the petitipn and in this motion. Christie is the owner of property located in the 2200 Block on Harrison Street and said owner desire that an extension of the existing water main be made so as to provide water service to the property above referred to. It appears from the endorsement by the Board of Commissioners of .later "forks that the applicant has complied',with all rules and regulations of the said Paducah 9atet Storks, as approved by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah. I therefore move that the application of Roger F. Christie be accepted and approved and that the Board of Commissioners of the Paducah ;later Works be authorized to execute the agreement for the laying of said extension and that the Board of Commissioners of Paducah :later :9orks be authorized to lay a six inch main on Harrison Street beginning at the west side of 23rd and Harrison Street and extending in an Eastwardly direction to the existing 6 inch main on Harrison Street, a distance of approximately 440 feet. I further move that the adoption of this resolution and the granting of the request contained in said application be considered as an agreement- on the part of the City of Paducah to pay the fire hydrant and water main rental, as provided in the fran- chise, on the pipe line referred to in the petition and in this motion. Said rental to begin :•then said water main has been laid and water provided for on the street above referred to. Commissioner Fairhurst offered the following motion: I move that the petition of Unity Evangelical and Reformed Church of Paducah, Kentucky, for permission to extend a connection, originally granted to Lot 13 in the Subdivision of A.E.Cole, fronting on the northerly line of Buckner Lane, said extension to be made in a south - westwardly direction to the property of said Church, being Lots i?os. 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 5 in Block No. 1 as shown by plat of the property of A. E. Cole dated June, 1951, and recorded in Plat Book "D", page 64, McCracken County Court Clerk's office, fronting approximately 281.6 feet on the southerly line of Buckner Lane in :cCracken County, Kentucky, and outside the corporate limits of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, be receive( and filed and that the request in said petition be granted in accordance with the terms and conditions of said petition. Commissioner Hook offered the following motion: I move that the Hoard of Commissioners receive and file the petition signed by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kelly and others requesting street lights at the corners of 22nd, 23rd and 24th Streets on Harris( Street, together with the report of the police department regarding same. I further move that the City Manager be directed to have the Kentucky Utilities Company install street lights at the following locations: In front of 2327 Harrison on the N.E.Corner North east corner where 23rd Street would be if extended through In front of 2141 Harrison on the N.E.corner. Muir and others re- questing a street light be placed at the intersection of Wallace Lane and Forest Circle f (between the 100 and 200 block), together with the report of the police department re- garding same. I further move that the City Manager be directed to instruct the Kentucky Utilities Company to install said street light on the north east corner of Wallace Lane and Forest Circle. Lucille Clark Commissioner Fairhurst offered motion that Lucille Clark, Clerk -typist in the places. under Civil Service Public Works Department, be employed under civil service, effective September 1, 1959, Iprovided that by such time she furnishes the City Manager, at her own expense, a satis I /factory medical report. Collier be employed as Temp Laborer 'St. Div, a temporary laborer in the Street Division of the Public Works Department at the rate of 91.171 per hour, effective August 18, 1959. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Fairhurst, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). Employ Commissioner Fairhurst offered motion that Ernest Sl. Ili Sell grave i, Commissioner Fendley offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve 'Rushing Add Pauline the sale by the City of Paducah to Pauline Pearson of the west one-half of Lot No. 45 Pearson in Block No. 7 of the Rushing Addition to Oak Grove Cemetery, and that the City Clerk be authorized to execute a deed of conveyance to said cemetery grave. Commissioner Fendley offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive, Gilberts �Plb & Heatirif approve and file liability insurance issued by The Employers} Fire Insurance Company -1 to the City of Paducah as respects work done by Gilbert's Plumbing & Heating, Inc. for a period of one year from July 11, 1959. Settle claim % Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the claim of Youngblood Plumbing Company Youngblood Plb Co •'76.001 against the City of Paducah in the sum of Seventy -Six Dollars ((;76.00) for damage done tc a motor vehicle owned by it by a truck of the City of Paducah on July 24, 1959 near 1731 Broadway be allowed and that the City Treasurer be, and he is hereby, directed and authorized to pay said claim after obtaining a full and complete release. Commissioner Hook offered the following motion: I move that the letter from Ed Turner, Fire Chief, addressed to the City Manager dated July 31, 1959, advising that David H. Myrick has completed fifteen (15) days of probationary period in the fire department and recommending that his appointment be made permanent as of July 31, 1959, be received and filed, and I further move that the said David H. Myrick be, and he is now, made a permanent employee of the fire department, effective July 31, 1959. York be employed as a fireman in the fire department of the City of Paducah at the beginning salary of ?260.00 per month, effective August 17, 1959, provided that by such time he furnishes the City Manager, at his own expense, a satisfactory medical report as to his physical condition, including an electrocardigram. Commissioner Hook offered motion that Collis Randle Ray be employed as a fireman in the fire department of the City of Paducah at the beginning salary of :260.0011 per month, effective August 15, 1959, provided that by such time he furnishes the City Manager, at his ovm expense, a satisfactory medical report as to his physical condition, including an electrocardigram. ORDINA!CE AUTHORIZING THE EUPLOY1•]ENT OF WILLIAMS, WILLIAI.9S AND LEHTZ, CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS, TO MAKE AP! AUDIT OF THE ACCOUNTS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH AND ALL CITY OFFICERS FOR THE YEAR 1959 IN CONSIDERATION OF THE PAYMENT TO THEM OF THE SUM OF ',$3,000.00", be adopted.
