HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Book 24, Page 400, June 26, 1962400 Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducahits, ane 26 1962 At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chambe of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 7:30 P.M. on June 26, 1962, Mayor Wherry presidei and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Gholson, i Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3), Commissioners Fendley and Hornsby being absent (2). Mayor Cherry offered motion that the reading of the Minutes for June 12, 1962 i be waived and that the Minutes of said Meeting prepared by the City_Clerk be approved as written. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Gholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Street ligh 1s Commissioner Gholson offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of the Lincoln & Miller and y'i Police Department, I move that the City Manager be authorized to request street light Miller & Roosevelt installations at the following locations: Lincoln Blvd. and Miller Miller and Roosevelt Blvd. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Gholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Gerald Case Commissioner Gholson offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of Maintenance Man Cecil Trimble, Chief of the Maintenance Department, I move that Gerald Casey, a laborer in the Maintenance Dept., be advanced to the position of Maintenance Man, effective July 1, 1962, at a salary of $275.00 per month. Such position not being under Civil Service. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Gholson, Karnes and Mayor / Cherry (3). Sell grave ✓ Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve the Rushing Addl Mrs. Carrie sale by the City of Paducah to Mrs. Carrie Fitzgerald, Sr. of the southeast corner of Fitzgerald, Sr Lot No. 27 in Block No. $ of the Rushing Addition to Oak Grove Cemetery, and that the City Clerk be authorized to execute a deed of conveyance to said cemetery grave. Liability Ins Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the Certificate of Insurance issued by Chastaine &!I Habacker The Fidelity and Casualty Compsny of New York to J. C. Habacker d/b/a Chastaine & Habacker and the City of Paducah, Kentucky, for a period of one (1) year from July 10, 1962, be received, approved and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissione Gholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Liability Iris. Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the Certificate of Insurance issued by Blackford i✓ Plb.& Heat'I Meridian Mutual Insurance Company to Billy Joe Blackford d/b/a Blackford Plumbing & Company Heating Compsny for a period of one year from February 1, 1962, be received, approved and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Gholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Employ Wm. Commissioner Gholson offered motion that William J. Wilkins be employed as Wilkins as Mechanic Mechanic Helper in the Street Division of the Public Works Department at a salary of Helper St. Div $1.59 per hour, effective July 1, 1962. Such employment is temporary and no civil service rights or other rights under any law or ordinance shall be covered by this employment. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Gholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Pay Kentuck Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the City Treasurer be and he is her Municipal League authorized and directed to pay to Kentucky Municipal League, the sum of $64$.00 for 1 1962 Dues i membership and services of said league, and charge same to Account Number 1$00. No 401 Proceedings of R.."i of Comm; ssj pro^ City of Paducah T,-, 26. 1962 _ Pay Fantus Co. / Commissioner Karnes offered motion that the City Treasurer be, and he is $5,000 hereby, authorized and directed to pay to the Fantus Company, Chicago, Illinois, the sum I of $5,000.00 upon payment of the economic and development study made by the said company, and charge same to Account Number 9004. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissions Gholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Refuse & Sewer r1be Commissioner Karnes offered motion that the reports of the Paducah Water Works Settlements for May, 1962 received and filed, and that the following checks be turned over to the City Treasurer to be deposited in the proper accounts: Refuse collections for May, 1962 $10,074.85 Sewer Service Charges for May, 1962 10,115.50 Bad Refuse accounts collected during May 20.60 Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Cholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Taylor Lamberty ' Commissioner Karnes offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of Ray Advanced to Truck Driver Kayse, Director of Public Works, I move that Taylor Lambert, a laborer in the Refuse Refuse Division of the City of Paducah, be advanced to the position of Truck Driver, effective July 13 1962; such position not being under Civil Service. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners GXolson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Sell grave in VZ Commissioner Karnes offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve the Rushing Add to a Etta Love sale by the City of Paducah to Etta Love of the northwest corner of Lot No. 29 in Block No. 8 of the Rushing Addition to Oak Grove Cemetery, and that the City Clerk be authorize to execute a deed of conveyance to said cemetery grave. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Gholson, Karnes and Mayor Cherry (3). Sell lot in Oak Commissioner Karnes offered the following motion: I move that the Board of Grove to Mr. & Mrs. Ike Cargill Commissioners approve the sale by the City of Paducah to Mr. & Mrs. Ike Cargill of the east one-half of Lot No. 5 in Block No. 1 in Oak Grove Cemetery for the sum of $120.00 I further move that the City Clerk be authorized to execute a deed of conveyer to said cemetery lot. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Gholson, Karnes and Mayor 'harry (3)• Char�es against z Commissioner Karnes offered the following motion: I move that the charges Owe" Lindsey Filed preferred by Paul Holland, Assistant Chief of the Police Department of the City of Paduc Kentucky, against Owen Lindsey, a member of the Police Department of said City, be recei and filed, and I further move that a hearing of said charges be held on June 29, 1962, a the hour of 5:00 o'clock P.M. in the Commission Chamber in the City Hall in Paducah, Kentucky, and that the City Clerk immediately notify the said Owen Lindsey of such charg against him and the date, time and place of said hearing by having a true copy of said charges served upon him together with a Notice of the date, time and place of hearing. Jennings, commending the Fire Department for efficient handling of a fire occurring in the Floral Apartments on June 9, 1962, be received and filed. Mayor Cherry offered motion that the letters of Ed Turner, Fire Chief, to the Mayo and Commissioners, dated May 11, 1962 and June 25, 1962, relative to the Fire Department be received and filed. Mayor Cherry offered motion that the claim of Ralph Holt, 1614 No. 12th St., Paduce Kentucky, in the sum of $20.42 for damages to his motor vehicle by the mowing machine used by the Floodwall Department, be allowed; and that the Treasurer pay said claim afte securing a full and complete release. Grimmer be temporarily employed as Assistant Cashier and Secretary to the Superintendent, at a salary of $100.00 per month, retroactive to June 9, 1962. Auen as a member of the Fire Department of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, effective June 17, 1962, be receive accepted and filed. Mayor Cherry offered motion that the liability insurance policy issued by The Aetna Casualty and Surety Company to the City of Paducah covering work done by Floyd Keeling d/b/a Keeling Excavating Company for a period of One year from June 9, 1962, be received, approved and filed. Commissioner Gholson offered motion that a Resolution entitled: "A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY TANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE (L) NEW POLYGRAPH, AND PRESCRIBING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS UPON WHICH SUCH PURCHASE SHALL BE MADE", be adopted. Commissioner Gholson offered motion that an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MXNAGER, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH G. ANTHONY JOHNSTON AND ASSOCIATES, ARCHITECTS, FOR THE PREPARATION OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR REPAIRS TO NOBLE PARK BATH HOUSE, AND SETTING FORTH THE TERMS AND PROVISIONS OF SUCH CONTRACT", be adopted. Mullen on Compacts car Adjourn Meeting Commissioner Karnes offered motion that an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH 19. H. YANCY FOR THE RESURFACING OF FOUR (4) TENNIS COURTS IN NOBLE PARK, AND PRESCRIBING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SAID CONTRACT', WHICH WAS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ON JUNE 12, 1962", be adopted. Commissioner Karnes offered motion that an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY 14ANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH D -X SUNRAY OIL COMPANY FOR THE PURCHASE OF ALL REGULAR AND ETHYL GASOLINE, MOTOR OIL, DIESEL FUEL, CHASSIS LUBRICANT, GEAR LUBE OIL, HYDRAULIC OIL, KEROSENE AND ANTI -FREEZE FOR USE BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, FOR THE PERIOD OF TIME FROM JULY 1, 1962 TO DECEMBER 31, 1962, AND PRESCRIBING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS UPON WHICH SAID PURCHASE SHALL BE MADE", be adopted.
